(key word is bold here folks don't say I predict the habs will finish 8th there is nothing bold about a prediction like that!)

both Daniel and Henrik will top 100 points next year, becoming the first teammates to do it in a while, and (AFAIK) the first brother tandem to do it in the same season in the NHL, ever. |

The Los Angeles Kings will win the Stanley Cup playing against the New Jersey Devils.
If that's not bold enough, I say the Cup winner will be an own goal scored by Ilya Kovalchuk in game 7 overtime.
Bold enough? |

i predict atlanta will not only make the playoffs but the calgary flames will win the division and finish second in the west.
Andrew Ladd will be a 30 goal scorer not quite as bold but still very plausible
bring back the franchise player or the team will leave like the last one |

and cammallerri having a career year should be expected hes playing with the same line for a whole year, playing an entire season. he should have be very well in position for this 92 point year based on him reaching his physical peak therefore not a bold prediction.
bring back the franchise player or the team will leave like the last one |

The Bruins regain their form from 2 yrs ago and become the Beast from the East, Seguin wins rookie of the year, Savard has a record year making those who wanted him traded eat their words and Chara ragdolls Matt Cooke.

Bold Prediction #1 I have already made one bold prediction on here, that the Leafs will in fact contend for a playoff spot, and IMHO will finish top 8 in the conference.
Bold Prediction #2 Kessel will top 40 goals and 80 points playing with Tyler Bozak this year.
Bold Prediction #3 We're off the Leafs wagon with this one . . . Buffalo tumbles down, down, down, way out of the playoffs this year and bottom of their division. Injuries, average play from Miller, etc.
Bold Prediction #4 Neither Seguin nor Hall win rookie of the year.
I liked the bold prediction about the Sedins getting 100 points, nice one.

Just pointing out that both ovechkin and backstrom had 100 points last year, and Crosby and malkin did it the year before. My bold prediction: dan hamius is a Norris trophy finalist. Henrik repeats as art Ross trophy winner and daniel scores 54 goals to win Richard trophy. And 1 more: ovechkin gets injured in November is out for season

The Stastny's came close. In 82-83, Anton had 92 points and Peter had 124.
My BOLD predictions:
1) Tyler Seguin will be back in the OHL this season. He will NOT be a day to day player for the Bruins
2) Calder winner will be Magnus Paajarvi. (He dropped the Svensson).
3) The Leafs will be a Lottery pick team, giving the Bruins a 2nd straight top 5 draft pick
4) Pittsburgh returns to the Cup final(with Crosby gaining the Art Ross and Hart for his season) and will win against the Detroit Red Wings.

CanucksMan, true enough - when I posted last night I didn't have the benefit of google (some weird outages last night), so could not check. I knew of Malkin/Crosby, and had forgotten about Backstrom/OV. Still, certainly not a common feat. Prior to that, all I can think of is Lemieux/Jagr in the early 90's, back when 100 points was a little easier to attain.
Beans, I'm with you on MPS (is he MP now?) for Calder, I think he'll thrive with all the pressure on Hall next year, he's the most mature of the 3 that EDM has.
I also don't think picking the Leafs to finish bottom 5 in the league is much of a *bold* prediction . Although Slozo, I'm with you on Kessel, he's going to have a great year this year. |

Oh, I'll get bold with the Leafs:
Kessel will average this season producing less than he has in the past (25 goals, 50pts), Phaneuf will have less than 45 points and a big minus rating, the Leafs will be one of the worst teams in the NHL at Christmas, Kadri will be injured and play only 50ish games and have about 25 pts as his tiny body will not hold up to the NHL game, and Wilson will not be fired. All of this will have the entire TO media and fan base calling for "Wizard of Oz's" head when both Tyler Seguin and Sean Couturier or Adam Larsson have Bears on their shirts rather than Buds in June of next year. |

I agree with Beans, Tyler Seguin will not be a regular this season. Did he not just have 1 point in his last full playoff round played in the OHL playoffs ?
N.Kadri will battle T.Hall for rookie of the year.
Savard`s main concern this year ToXX may be his health.
The Oilers will finish 30 th.
San Jose will finish 1st overall and finally win a cup, this will be their year.
Toronto will finish between 1st and 3rd in their division
Montreal will be close to them all season, unless Price flops.
Ovi will have a massive season.
Toronto will play Washington in the Eastern finals, hows that for bold ??
San Jose will play Detroit in the west.
M.Brodeur and R.Luongo will have lousy seasons. |

Leafs start 5-0 then manage to fall apart and end up 13th in the east and Boston ends up with another top 5-10 first round pick out of it,
Canucks win the division for the 3rd straight year and make it to the Confrence finals where they end up facing Chicago and finally take a series from the hawks. Daniel Wins the Art Ross and Hart Trophies just to even thinks up with Hank.
Ottawa also makes the finals, defeating the devils in the confrence finals. Leclaire stays healthy and has 40+ wins
Calgary ends up trading jokinen away again at the deadline for the 2nd straight year, after another disappointing year Iggy requests to be traded.
Edmontons Hall runs away with the Calder

The Penguins struggle to make the playoffs.
Both St. Louis and Calgary make the playoffs in the west, with Calgary finishing 4 in the conference.
Price and Niemi struggle. Leighton proves that he is Philly's #1 goalie. |

Kadri plays in the AHL
Eberle wins the calder.
Mats Sundin comes back for a stint in San Jose.
Boston and Philly meets in the eastern conference final
Vancouver and Detroit meets in the west
Boston wins cup over Detroit
Pittsburgh struggles (injuries, lack of support and missing Gonchar) this year and barely makes the playoffs 6-8.
Neither Henrik or Daniel scores 100 points.

This just in:
I heard on the radio that Savvard is sitting out the beginning of the season with "post conc syndrome"
I guess he isn't over it, which means Seguin will get his shot at the title.

sensfan 101, haven`t chicago lost 8 of their 21 starters from last years cup winning team ? and all of these loses were their core / hard nose in your face guys. This is 38 % of their team gone. Chicago repeating is a big time bold prediction in my opinion.
So glad Toronto didn`t make a play for Jason ( p**** ) Spezza, now Daniel Alfred, ....theres an hockey player, unless Gary Roberts is on the ice ))) |

yeah spezza being one of the top 6 playmakers in the league and a big center who is point per game career or very close wouldn`t have been exactly what the leafs or any team would need,,,, its funny how the media can make an amazing and boarderline elite player in the NHL at what 28 years old seem like a terrible cancer and a player who could actually hurt a team..

The point i was trying to make Pasty is that Spezza is a very good REGULAR SEASON PLAYER....come playoff time he disappears, ( another matts sundin ). When the playoffs start you need Mike Richards type personalities in your line-up in order to win. Players like Spezza and the former leaf Sundin don`t fit this mould, they don`t push back, they are too easily pushed off the puck, no-guts..no-glory. |

Ya, Spezza does nothing in the playoffs. 46 games played, 14G, 32A for 46 pts.
Who on earth would want a player who produces a PPG in the regular season AND the playoffs??? Even his worst seasons are better than any player on the Leafs has had as their best season.
Who would want that crap on their team??? |

If he is so great Beans, then why didn`t he lead Ottawa past the leafs in the early part of this decade ? Didn`t the leafs put out Ottawa 2 or 3 seasons during this time period with a lousy leaf team ?
How many goals did Spezza have during the stanley cup final against the ducks in 2007 ?? ANSWER...A BIG FAT ZERO. I remember D.Alfred playing great with 4 goals in 5 games....not Spezza, too soft. As i said before D. Alfred,, theres a hockey player.
Theres more to a hockey player than just stats. |

What in the world does Jason Spezza have to do with Ottawa not beating the Leafs in the playoffs?
Do some research!!! Spezza's first full season with Ottawa was in 03/04, where he played 78games, and had 55pts. The last time the Leafs beat Ottawa in the playoffs was that year. The Leafs beat them in game 7.
Essentially, your logic is that a sophomore with 111 regular season games and 3 playoff games experience should have been able to carry his entire team in his second ever NHL playoff series.
Yup, he's a real failure because he couldn't be a playoff leader against the Maple Leafs as a sophomore.
Did I mention he only played 3 games that series, which he was on the ice for a whopping 40 minutes? |

West predictions here.
1. San Jose 2. Detroit 3. Vancouver 4. Chicago 5. Anaheim 6. Nashville 7. Phoenix 8. Dallas
FIRST ROUND San Jose def. Dallas Phoenix def. Detroit Vancouver def. Nashville Chicago def. Anaheim
SECOND ROUND San Jose def. Phoenix Vancouver def. Chicago (yes, finally)
WESTERN CONFERENCE FINAL Vancouver def. San Jose in 7 games
East predictions here 1. Pittsburgh 2. New Jersey 3. Washington 4. New York Rangers 5. Philadelphia 6. Tampa Bay 7. Ottawa 8. Toronto
Just kidding. #8 is Buffalo. :D
FIRST ROUND
Pittsburgh def. Buffalo New Jersey def. Ottawa Tampa Bay def. Washington Philadelphia def. New York
SECOND ROUND Pittsburgh def. New Jersey Tampa Bay def. Philadelphia
EASTERN CONFERENCE FINAL Pittsburgh def. Tampa Bay in 5 games
STANLEY CUP FINAL
Vancouver def. Pittsburgh in 7 games
Other major predictions, in case these aren't enough...
Washington will rocket out of the gates, fueled by last years upset. By December they'll have a ten point lead in the East. Then, Semin will try drumming on someone dangerous and get punched out. His blurriness in the later part of the game, combined with embarrassment will make him do something stupid, and he'll blow out a knee. Soon after, or even before, Don Cherry's hypothesis will prove correct and Ovechkin's reckless antics will catch up to him, and he'll get twisted around in the end boards and break his leg. Washington will limp to a third place finish in the east, but again will not go deep into the playoffs. |

ok polish express, agree spezza was a young guy in 03/04. How come you didn`t make a comment on his performance in the cup final of 2007 ?? what did he have like 1 assist or something ? He wasn`t a young rookie then.
Thing is i`m a leaf fan...i don`t like either spezza or alfredsson..lol, but i will give credit to an elite hockey player like Alfredsson...at least the tough duck team didn`t intimidate him like they did with spezza. 4 goals againist that tough ( goon like ) ducks team was pretty impressive. |

Well Duke, if you are giving credit where credit is due then you are missing Spezza big time. Sure, he might have had a weak finals, but you can't discredit his 22 points in 20 games in the playoffs that year nor the 34 goals and 53 assists in just 67 games in the regular season. You can not deny he was an integral part of the Sens making it to the Finals that season and as much as Alfredsson was.
Bottom line, dislike who ever you want, but don't come with the he's a bad player argument when you can't back it up. For the type of player he is (purely offensive, #1 centre) he IS in the elite class including Sedin, Thornton, Savard, et al. He is not a complete package like Alfredsson is, but few are. That being said, if you don't like Spezza because he is a Senator that's fine. But call him a bad player and be prepared to back it up by calling his peers bad players too. |

Here is my comment about Spezza's performance in the Cup Finals:
His two points in the 06/07 finals against anaheim are two points more than any maple leafs team since 66/67.
I echo Beans sentiments in saying you should back up your hate with something more than a strong dislike of the individual. |

Ok folks - here is where I step in and tell everyone that this is the BOLD PREDICTION thread, not the "Jason Spezza may or may not suck" thread.
Keep it on topic!
Banking on Spezza getting 70 - 80 points would not be a bold prediction, btw.

Rookies to not only make their teams but do well P K Subban Mon Tyler Ennis Buf John Carlsson Was Eric Tangratti Pit Deric Stepan NYR Oliver Ekman Larson PHO Lars Eller Mon Taylor Hall Edm M Paajarve EDM Jordan Eberle Edm Alex Pietrangelo STL Ryan Vesce SJ side note I would include Kadri but I saw enough of him in Junior to say he has all the skill in the world but has a 2 cent brain when it comes to reality. Therefore, I pick him to make the team on talent alone but will be in the doghouse an awful lot due to his lack of interest in anything that does not get him points
And by the way my pick to be rookie of the year goes to Carlsson from Was. Runner up, P.K Subban, and 2nd runner up Tyler Ennis from Buf. |

Polish i didn`t use the word HATE...u did, hate is a strong word that we need used a lot less of here in Canada right now. Anyway if the best you can come up with regarding spezza`s LOUSY cup final performance in 06/07, ( and it was lousy ) is to make fun of the maple leafs then i guess you haven`t got much of an arguement have you ?? guess the spezza debate is over...
Slozo you are right...this is not a jason spezza thread, comments just get carried over.
p.s...Polish i guess you are an oilers fan ( jersey logo ) ? I loved watching the 80`s oilers, became somewhat of a fan. I don`t poke fun at them now though just because they are the BOTTOM of the barrell.

ToXXiK1 I guess I was going to make it a rookie of the year bold prediction and I don't think he will be as good as people think. He got pretty well handled in the OHL finals vs. Windsor and even the worst NHL team is going to be able to do this. He will get more and more ice time but in my opinion I don't see him making as big of an impact this year. Give him 2 years and I would say top 3 player, just not this year. Sorry. |

I will boldly predict that some meatball in the Edmonton Media will coin some new line including Taylor Hall.
Oh crap. Already happened. Here comes the Hall, Horcoff, Hemsky combo being coined the Triple H Line.
I just threw up in my mouth a little bit. |

ha beans, good one - triple H! You have to think that its a pretty viable line option for EDM next year, no?
Going to the VAN/EDM pre-season matchup tonight, I'm hoping that I'll see at least one of Hall/Eberle/MP in action. |
