Wow, huge numbers for Doughty. Every part of me wanted to say Lidstrom, but he isn't top of the heap anymore. A few of the others options are about equal with Doughty at the moment, but he's the only one with a big upside.

Mike green. The guy put up 80+ points and still gets back in the rush to stop a play. He is def my favourite :) |

I had to go with Duncan Keith. I don't see him play much but from what I saw in the playoffs and at the Olympics he's a really complete defenseman. In my mind, he brings the best out of everybody, especially Brent Seabrook.
He won a gold medal, a Stanley Cup and the Norris trophy last year.
Lidstrom was the best for so many years but now at 40, guys like Duncan Keith and Drew Doughty are passing him. |

Love Doughty but I think Duncan Keith showed me something special last year how about spitting out his teeth and staying in there to help win!!!! He's number 1 IMHO |

Drew Doughty, without much doubt. Keith is a somewhat close 2nd but Doughty`s upside is huge. Remember the controversy in this guy making Team Canada, and then just how well he played on the big stage? He not only beat out guys like Phaneuf, Boumeester and Green to make that team, he ended up as one of the best dmen on the gold medal winning team! |

Shea Weaber , I think was the best D man in the Olympics, i find he kinda flys under the radar playin in Nashville i would argue that on any given night Weaber is as good as any d man in the league, I think their a more than a few Norris Trophies in this guys futur.

chris pronger, as sluggish as he looked the olympics, the question was in the NHL right now. And, their's no denying he ran everyone's show in last year's playoffs. Keith and Lidstrom are a very close 2nd and 3rd, respectively. While what the f*** are Kaberle and Phaneuf doing here, Markov and Rafalski too? |

It would Depend on what you are considering. Defensemen have many aspects, if you are talking points it would be Doughty, if you are talking Defense skill(in own zone) it would be Weber, Keith, Chara, or Pronger, if you wan't entertainment it would be Ohlund, or Green. So i voted Green

I can't really pin-point who the 'best' defencemen is, personally.
If you want to base it on overall game, over a long period of time then Niklas Lidstrom is my choice.
If you want offense, a guy like Mike Green.
If you want defense, a guy like Zdeno Chara.
So many options.
But, I can say who my 'favorite' defenseman is... Zdeno Chara.
