No Porkchop the bet with Mario was from last year lol. Which I lost badly by the way that's why I had a Leafs last playoffs.
You miss 100 percent of the shots you don't take Wayne Gretzky |

Beans....love this offer / wager. It should be a fun one to track as the season progresses. Kudo's to you for coming up with something more than the normal bets we see! My takes, even if they don't matter .............
1. Leafs miss, barely 2. Oilers finish 25th or better 3. Kessel squeezes out 39 or 40 4. Hall gets hot in the second half and pots 35+ 5. Kessel and maybe Kulemin both top 65 |

I agree that Beans made a good, and pretty fair, bet. I was happy to have him set the terms (knowing that I have won the last two years in a row), but certainly wouldn't have agreed to anything I didn't think I had a good chance of winning.
Of note, this is the first year I have been willing to bet on the Leafs making the playoffs.
And I am painfully aware of the 65 pt thing, Beans . . . it's something that has pained me ever since he (Sundin) left. But I think both Grabovski and Kessel and even Kulemin perhaps (less so) have a very good shot at it this year. To me, an improved offence overall (forwards and D) should put them over the top.
And I like that you included Hall's 35 goals, to offset Kessel's goal total quest. It's fair.
Very much looking forward to it as we move along in the year . . . could have many twists and turns. As much as it's about the Leafs, if Hall were to get an unfortunate injury, it would certainly go a long way towards cutting down his goal total and hurting the Oilers chances at 25th or better. Stranger things have happened!

Injuries would have a significant impact on many of the bets. Kessel out for any length of time would put all three Leaf bets in jeopardy. Hall out for the Oilers would have some what of a similar effect however less on the Oilers overall, more on the individual Hall bet. Now, if and 2 of Hemsky, Hall, Eberele, Smyth, or Horcoff and/or Whitney does not come back soon then it spells trouble for me.
We'll see how things look in a month. |

Another bet I forgot about. I can't remember which Canuck fan was arguing with me (either Alex or Nux, you both look the same) but I am calling Claude Giroux as being a top 10 offensive producer this season. I am willing to listen to terms as I have my avatar and signature on the line already, we will have to be creative.
I must also ask for the condition if Giroux plays less than 65 games due to injury the bet is void.
Who wants some??? |

Don't recall it being me, though it's possible i guess? Having said that, i'm not as high on him as Brad May is (he picked him to win the Art Ross this year), but i do consider him a star. AND, considering he was 11th last year in scoring and only missing the top ten by a single point, i don't think i'm interested in this bet. He could just as easily finish in the 11-15 range as he could the 5-10 range making this bet more of a coin flip than anything!
I'll leave this one for Nuxfan to consider. |

Beans, it was me. I don't recall top-10, rather that he would get over 90 pts (whether or not that is top-10 is moot). I'm not willing to go top-10, but will take a 90 pt threshold with a 65 game minimum. You win if he gets 91 or more points, I win with 90 or less.
If those terms are good, I'll take the avatar. |

How about 90+ I will, 89 or less you win??
Avatar is already on the line with Slozo and the signature is on the line with ?? I can't remember the bet anymore. But both are off the table. Any other ideas?? Wasn't it you who won a bet with me last season for an essay about Tanner Glass?? I'd do that again, fully expecting a far more punishing essay this year. |

yep, we had the essay bet, I'll take that again - and yes, it will be more punishing this year...
But I'm taking 90 or less! |

Beans: Bet for signature was about Senators final position in standings. I copied the confirmation by you of the bet so it would be retained here.
Bet is on! Signature chosen by the winner and to be in place through the 2012 playoffs. 25th or better you win, dead last I win, 29 to 26 is a wash. Odds are in your favor but I like this bet.

i got one for you Alex, in the `who will win the Art Ross thread` we didn`t see eye to eye on how many points Rick Nash will put up this year i`m willing to give you the same terms Beano and Nuxxy have on Giroux ,, 91 points or more for Nash i win and 90 or less you win

Given how close last year's bet was for CHI in the top-4, it would not surprise me - and I'll be laughing the loudest .
I personally have Giroux pegged for 80-85 pts this year, so I can't say I'm terribly confident in my odds, but we'll see what happens. |

DEAL! And i even get the 90 without having to play hardball like nuxfan! I like it!
What are the terms, or penalty to the loser should i say? Keep in mind, if i have a second favorite team, it's the Habs! |

Why can't I get gifts like that? Seriously, a guy with nearly 500 NHL games who has never had even and 80 pt season and has only one season with more the 70 pts is all of a side. Gong to get 90?
Can I get some of this action?

100% agree Beans. Absolutely think that it would be LUDICROUS to think Nash can get 90 points while at an age (27) that should be his approximate peak, and the beginning of a slow downturn. 69, 79, 67, 66 points in the last 4 years. 79 is his peak, playing with Huselius and Umberger and nobodies.
Now with Carter, another natural scorer who will probably only play with him on the pp . . . he is ging to get 90?!?

Pasty, you do realize I am betting on a 23 yr old guy going into his 4th season who has increased his production from 27 pts to 47 pts to 76 pts and a guy who has been a PPG playoff player right? You are betting on a guy going into his 10th season NHL season who has never produced 80 pts right?
It's not bias it's logic.
If you are so confident in your bet and disagree with mine, give me action on the Nash bet and I will give you action on the Giroux bet. I am confident I will win both |

Pasty, I think your comment that the best player Nash has played with being RJ Umburger is more than a bit of a slight towards the likes of Vermette Zherdev, Vyborny, and Ray Whitney. All of who performed as good or better than Nash on the same team during Nash's career.
Secondly, I would love for you to be able to find me even one player who's performance increased by 20 points after joining a different team or having other players added to their team.
Not only do I think that CBJ is not as good a team as some think, Carter is also not the kind of player that makes everyone around him better. Finally, Nash is not as good as you are expressing. He is a good player but to say he is elite is a stretch. I think 80 pts is a stretch. I think 90 point is nearly impossible.
I already have my avatar, my signature, and an essay on the line. I don't have many more items to wager but if you can think of anything, I will literally take absolutely any non-monetary wager you wish. Anything at all. |

Ryan Kesler - went from 59 pts to 75 pts the year that Kyle Wellwood was signed to VAN. Its a fact. |

nuxfan, careful, that's not the 20+ points Beans was asking for!
BTW Beans, although i get your point, i'm sure it has happened! And i will find you an example . Funny, the first guy i checked was Gretzky, but he only had 19 more when he went to LA. Lol. Of course, the year before in Edm, he only played 64 games.
Now i have to rack my brain to find one! |

If you ask me, this sounds like a pretty ominous threat, mobster-style. I may be wrong, but in case I am not, Beans, please just change back to the Leafs' avatar. I believe that this is what Slozo would like you to do, and none of us wants to see any "twists and turns" resulting in an "unfortunate injury" that may end up "hurting the Oilers".

Beans......i should have thought of this guy immediately, and wouldn't be surprised if Pasty thought of the same guy..... John Leclair!
Now, he was traded during the season, so it's hard to determine exactly his improvement, but his last full season with the Habs was 43 points. His first full season in Philly was 97!
Jason Allison's another guy who comes to mind but i don't have time to look up his numbers? I do recall a suddne improvement in his point totals when he got to Boston?
Of course, the obvious one slipped me by earlier. When i mentioned Gretzky, i should have automatically thought of Bernie Nicholls! Surely he had a MASSIVE improvement.
In fairness though Beans, i cannot quite put Jeff Carter in Wayne Gretzky's class. |

yes all the player you named have had around 65 points in a year or two with Columbus but except for Vermettte none f these player where either with the JAckets or have scored anywhere near 65 points since 2008,, and not to slap these guys in the face but how many of their assist totals got boosted because they played with an Elite talent like Nash. Of those players the best is by far is Whitney and i<d say he is the only first liner he has ever played with and the last season he played with Whitney was his season of 79 points, Now Jeff Carter is a better player than Whitney and i know Carter is a shoot first player and not the ideal center but they are both very big strong players and terrific skaters and are going to go hard to the net and get goals, and because Carter has such a dangerous shot that opens up a lot of space for Nash.
It s just like in Baseball a batter benifits from having a better hitter behind him in the order because the pitcher has no choice but to pitch to you , you`ll get your pitchs because it s the guy behind you they want to pitch around

I love putting out challenges like that. I am so loved and respected that everyone wants to prove me wrong and I learn so much. So in the history of the NHL, we can come up with 2 players that have had substantial increases in their production adding in players and those players were Wayne Gretzky and Eric Lindros, both in their prime. Does anyone else think that Jeff Carter will have anywhere near the same impact as either of those guys?? I like my odds of this bet even better now.
I already have an essay bet with Nuxfan, an Avatar bet with Slozo, and a signature bet with JoshuaCanada. I will offer all three of those to you for the entire 2012/13 season. If Rick Nash scores more than 90 points (meaning 91+) in the 2011/12 regular season than I will write an essay singing the virtues or Rick Nash at the end of this season, I will put up the avatar of your choice and use the signature of your choice (obviously tasteful) and proudly display them for the entire 2012/13 regular season.
If Rick Nash does not score more than 90 points (meaning 90 or less) that you will write an essay explaining why a player of my choice is better than Rick Nash at the end of the regular season and you will have to display the avatar and signature of my choice(obviously tasteful) for the entire 2012/13 regular season.

UPDATE on the bet between myself and Beans:
I know it's early days, but I love it when I see Hall's first goal on the boxscore as I was sort of keeping track of that game . . . then check this morning to see they gave it to RNH, ha ha.
It's a monkey wrench in the whole thing that hadn't occurred to me - that Nugent-Hopkins (can we shorten his name, btw?) might play on Hall's line and become the go-to guy to score, not Hall as most would have predicted. [edit - I see now those were just power plays, got it - they are not playing on the same line, my bad]
We'll see how it plays out. It's a long season, but it's already fun to watch and speculate!

Slozo, Hall is still the go to guy on that line and any line he is on. Last night was the first night that RNH (is that short enough for ya) played with Hall and Eberle and the future of the Oilers is bright. RNH has scored 4 goals this season and all of them have been rebound/front of the slot kind of goals. Hall still leads the team in shots and has looked dangerous. He is taking the puck to the net harder this year be is also playing on the edge a lot and getting hit in ackward areas.
Regardless, it is a long season but I would have to say that if you think that RNH is becoming the go to guy you must not have watched many if any of the Oiler games so far.
On another note, Kessel can settle down when ever he likes!! Wow has he started off like a house on fire. Unfortunately, I have him in 2 drafts so I am stuck cheering for him and booing him at the same time. That being said, I have money on my other drafts and this is just a picture. I would rather lose this bet than lose by draft! |

Beano Maybe i'm just too slow but all your terms and what season and what not sounded complicated so i propose this,
If Nash scores 90 points or less you win, 91 or more i win
the loser will have to open a Topic about the winners favorite team, (i assume Edomonton for me if you win, And Montreal for you if i win) In the first post of the topic the loser must make radical claims about how great the team and it's players are for example "Mike Cammalleri is by far the best goal scorer in the league the only reason he doesn't score 50 every year are injuries and linemates" you know that sort of thing, then for a period to be determined the loser will have to defend ever attack a guest or poster makes against "his team" i was thinking for a month or maybe less,
I don't know if it would work... we could always try i just always get a laugh when a guest or someone unaware of a bet calls you for example a typical leafs fan because of all the avatar switching i thought this maybe could take it one step furthur and be even more crueling seeing as though you would have defend comments as a fan of this paticular team.......
like i said this really may not work i'm just trying to think outside the box

The bet is if 3 or more of my predictions come true, you must proudly display an Oilers avatar from the end of the 11/12 regular season until the start of the 12/13 season. If less than 3 of my predictions come true than I put up the Leafs avatar for the same duration.
Bet?
STATUS CHECK:
1) Leafs currently in playoffs, quite solidly in fact (slozo ) 2) Oilers currently 25th or higher . . . but it's getting close (Beans ) 3) Kessel on pace for . . . 55 goals (slozo ) 4) Taylor Hall on pace for 26 goals, now injured (slozo ) 5) *2 Leafs on pace for 66 pts or more - Lupul 99, Kessel 106 (slozo )
Slozo has a big lead right now . . . but it's a long season, so no one is counting chickens yet. But it looks great so far!
* Note: this number is technically 3, as Connolly (12 pts in 12 games) if projected over the remaining 58 games was to continue his pace and NOT get re-injured, would finish with 70 points.

Pasty! Nash is gonna have to get his butt in gear for ya!
Speaking of which, i never got back to you to finalize our bet. I think a signature line for the playoffs would be good enough. The winner can decide what it says?
Slozo, your bet is looking pretty good. Especially the part where "no Leaf over 65 pts" is concerned!!! |
