As a guy who in past has jumped all over anyone talking about how good this guy is, it's time for me to come to his defense i suppose. I've always considered Green a one dimensional offensive dman and have claimed they should move him to the wing as he's been terrible in his own zone. I'm not sure what they've done in Washington, not just with Green but the whole team, but it seems they're making an attempt to play more defensively than we've become accustomed to.

Now, i def don't get to see too many Washington games and therefore will credit the following knowledge to hearing it reported on the radio by i believe Ray Ferraro but if you take a little time to research Washington's numbers, which i have, you'll notice Green has some pretty good numbers on the defensive side of his game. Ferraro was explaining how he has improved that side of his game and mentioned a few things which i looked up.

Where Mike Green ranks with the Washington Capitals:

Time on ice - 1st
Time on ice / game - 1st
Short handed TOI - 4th
SH TOI / game (hasn't played all the games) - 2nd!
Hits - 3rd
Blocked shots - tied for 1st!
+/- - 7th

Now, not all of these may be relevant or totally accurate of his play and again, i don't see him enough really to have a strong opinion, but from everything i've heard, he's really stepped his game up defensively.

Perhaps there's others more deserving even with his improvements, but he may be a lot better than you think (guest).

Alex i do not argue that Green has improved defensively and maybe you are simply proving a point to one of the guest or other members about how improved Green is overall. However, in consideration to the thread about him being picked for the all star game i have to completely disagree with his selection. John Michael Liles & Lubomir Vishnovsky are having career years offensively and Green has had a slow season which really is the reason anyone ever makes an allstar game outside of the players thrown in there so a team can have a rep.

I honestly believe Chara & Green where selected simply on their names & their history rather then offensive merit this season cuz as many people have stated and you know yourself defense is the last thing on the mind in a all star game.

Mario, point taken, and believe me, i wasn't necessarily saying he deserved to be there, i just wanted to point out to those like me who've often slagged this guy that he has improved (from what i've heard).

I think the last sentence i wrote sums up what i was trying to say, that not necessarily did i think he should be a selection, but his overall game has improved. When i read "Why is Mike Green there????? He has not done squat this year", i figured i'd share a little incite into his improved overall game, that's all.

My big complaint on Luongo not being there was that he was in the commercial, also proving a point that a lot of Canucks are good enough to make the All-Star game.

Crosby is injured, I hope Zetterberg replaces him, as you said he should be there. If not Zetterberg Gaborik, or Stasny.

Defense could use a lot of Improvment, don't doubt Mike Green for this All-Star Game he is great on Offense and that is what the All Star Game needs. I would put in Wisnewski over Stall or Byfuglien. (Byfuglien is a great shot, and hitter but I don't think injuries are wanted from this game.)

whaaaaat? JAMES Wisnewski? Or is there another Wisnewski that I don't know about, that is better than Buff who is second in overall defenseman scoring and first in goals by a defenseman by a fairly wide margin. Buff deserves to be there, and not as an injury replacement.

As for Canucks absent from the game, I don't think any Canucks other than the 3 they chose really deserve to be there. Many of them are having outstanding years, but only Kesler and the Sedin's are really having all-star years. No other forward deserves to be there. Luongo does not deserve to be there. Edler and Erhoff are both in the top 25 in scoring for dmen, but there are other dmen having individually better seasons than they are that deserve to be there.

The beauty of the Canucks this year is that they're getting things done as a TEAM - there are not many that stand out individually.
