Last summer, there was much debate about the dismantling of CHI, and at the time, speculation about who they'd be able to keep and who they would not. At the time, I was certain that they would be unable to hang on to their core and keep Seabrook, but lo and behold, they have extended him at 5.8M a year.
Obviously a good signing, he is one of the best defensive dmen in the game today, and carries a heavy workload on the CHI blueline. I cannot help but wonder, once again, how they're going to carry that team and fill in the holes this summer to remain competitive...
They have 10M in cap space to sign 11 players next year, and one of those players is Crawford who should be looking for a decent raise given his very good year in goal. And once again, they'll likely be seeing a significant turnover in their bottom-6 forwards and bottom 3 dmen, unless they can get the existing supporting cast to take very little raise.

I don't think this was smart to sign Seabrook. Seabrook is a 1st line D-man and so is Keith. The team needs 3 D lines to run. We will see how it goes. (I would not want too drop Seabrook either)

Is this a sign that Campbell will be on his way out of town?? He is having a decent season with 20 point and a team high +21. Still a little steep of a contract, but if Chicago can find a home for him it will free up $7 million in cap space. |

interesting to note - Seabrook did not get a NTC/NMC as part of his new deal AFAIK. That gives CHI some ability to move him, if they absolutely need to, and he has a lot of value with a new 5 year contract as well (ie, not a UFA).
CHI did everything the could to move Campbell last year with no luck - I honestly don't see how the market suddenly got better for him this year - esp considering that his stats have not gotten better over last season. |

I like Seabrook, but $5.8 is a pretty big cap hit for them moving forward. They have an awful lot of money tied up in 7 players. Next season, the Hawks have $40.2 million owed to Kane, Toews, Hossa, Sharp, Keith, Seabrook & Campbell. With the exception of Patrick Sharp, all of those players are signe dlong term. Sharp becomes a UFA after next season, and i honestly can't see how they'll be able to resign him. |
