I'll get the spreadsheet updated sometime today... then I guess I can create a poll to have people vote on the teams. :)

what sort of preamble do you think we should give?

"Submit your vote for best "Greatest of all-time" team (League #2). Which team has the best combination of offense, defense, and grit. Who should win the S.G.O.A.T cup!?"

comments welcome.

Ok, just for fun, a quick analysis. Obviously, this is my opinion, and my opinion alone. ;)
(it's just a first look initial quick analysis)

:)

Players drafted in the S.G.O.A.T league that I believe shouldnt be considered GOAT-type players:
- Paul Henderson
- Sidney Crosby
- Saku Koivu
- Sheldon Souray
- Dion Phaneuf
- Trevor Linden
- Mattias Ohlund
- Adam Foote
- Kimmo Timonen
- Tomas Vokoun
- Ed Jovanovski

Other analysis:
- I think Orr MUST be on the 1st PP unit and Bourque on the 1st PK unit. ;)
- Phaneuf shouldnt be on the PK unit. He's still learning the Defensive side of his game
- I'd get Lidstrom out there on the 1st PK unit instead of Housley
- I certainly wouldnt have put Foote on the PP. I'd swap him to PK and flip him and Timonen

I picked Trevor Linden because he is my all time favourite player and wanted him on my team, and Ohlund is my Favourite all time Dman and was my last pick so i thought id pick him as my last pick, but I do agree that they arnt really GOAT type players, and I agree on all those other players.

I don't blame anyone for picking anyone. :)

I love Linden too. The guys got more heart that 90% of his peers, and he's a fantastic individual to boot. As an all-around-hockey-player-and-person, he's one of my favorites of all time as well.

You really don't think Foote is GOAT caliber? He was once a dominating defenseman in the late 90's. He may not have big points but his checking is strong and he is pretty hockey smart. Timonen is, without doubt, GOAT caliber. His defense is great. His offense is great. He can pass well, too. Vokoun is stellar. He has been injured a bit in his career and has been on a once week team. I thought this draft was not going to be soley based on points.

I'm quite disappointed right now!! I just thought of another Dman that I really would have wanted to pick in the GOAT draft! I think that Paul Reinhart really should have been picked!! This guy only played 11 seasons and 648 games before injuries forced him to retire, but he was one of the best during his era. He accumulated 560 points in his 648 games. This would have given him 100 more points than Coffey, and 285 more points than Bourque if he played the same number of games. Ok, yes yes.. I agree it's not quite right to compare this way since great players maintain their 'greatness' over their entire long careers, but 648 games isnt a bad sample size to get somewhat of an idea.

Too bad he didnt play longer.. I certainly think he would be up near the top of the Dmen class.

I dont argue that any of these 3 are not great players, I completely agree, they are great players! I (personally) just dont see these 3 anywhere near GOAT calibre when there are so many others that are.

My opinion. :)

I again completely agree. The draft isnt, and shouldnt be, based on points. There are numerous selections, and deserved GOAT players, that prove this IMO.

Sorry Saku, I didnt mean to target anyone. :)
I certainly dont think you picked any bad players, just the definition of a GOAT player for me differs a bit from your definition! ;) I'm not saying my definition is right, it's just 'my' definition! ;)
Players like Crosby and Phaneuf may very well end up being GOAT players, but it's too early in their careers (for me). Same might be said about Souray as well if he keeps this up. So dont fret, you selections are still great players. :)

Swaping out the 6 leading NHL goal scorer of ALL-TIME for Zubby? Zubov is a great Dman, but still....
