Through 2 periods tonight, Corey Perry has scored 3 goals to reach the 50 goal mark. He also has an assist to move into 2nd place in the scoring race with 97 points, only 3 points behind Daniel Sedin.
All along Perry's name has rarely been mentioned in MVP discussions. But he's been red hot the past 2 months. Not only is he running away with the Richard Trophy, but he's in striking distance of the Art Ross as well. Anyone think he has a chance of winning the Hart?

Good points! Perry should be a consideration on the Hart ballot now. He may be the only 50 goal scorer in the NHL this season. And his team looks to make the playoffs too!
I wonder if this recent surge has caught Daniel Sedin's attention? The Canucks have two "nothing games" left to finish the season, but I suspect Daniel will do his best to win the Art Ross. Henrik did his best to beat Ovechkin for the scoring title last season, but winning the individual awards didn't translate into any playoff success for his team. |

Perry has pretty much come out of nowhere to be in the running - 10 goals and 18 pts in his last 7 games (including tonight), that is nuts!
I don't know if he'll catch Daniel, but he certainly could. And yeah, certainly a Hart candidate at this point. |

BTW - Emery was yanked at about the halfway mark after surrendering one goal - that usually means injury. Anyone hear anything about it? If he is injured, with Hiller also injured, that would mean hitting the postseason with Ellis starting. Eeks. |

sahis....the whole "he plays with so and so" is so played out it's not funny. He's had a phenomenal season all year, including when Getzlaf was out! He carried the Ducks during that time.
Perry doesn't even need to catch Daniel to have a shot at the Hart! The 50+ will sway some votes for sure and deservedly so! Funny, all this Tim Thomas talk for the Vezina, could this help him to get Hart consideration? What i'm saying is, if voters have trouble deciding between Daniel and Perry, Thomas may just find himself in the mix???
At this point, and i'm not sure i ever thought i'd say this, but i'd rather the Canucks face Chicago than Anaheim! That Ducks team is pretty scary in its own right! |

Well, right NOW, Perry IS the MVP of the league. He has been tearing it up, and to get 50 with the trick just puts a stamp on it.
It was probably a week ago that I thought he should start being considered, and now, he is most certainly near the top. The only 50 goal scorer of the season is a big deal, 6 goals ahead of Stamkos who looks like he will have a hard time getting 45 at this point with the way he's slowed down.
And to people trying to spin around the argument on Perry, saying that he plays with such great talent . . . I pose this question: When was the last time that Getzlaf or Ryan won an Art Ross trophy or MVP? Because to me, the whole "look who he plays with" thing applies much more to a Sedin than it does to a Perry.

Funny thing is, the reason i think most are/were hard pressed to give Perry his props, is Getzlaf! He's always, till now, been the more productive of the two, was drafted earlier, and has always, till now, been higher profile! Now that Perry has had a chance to shine without him, he's standing out!
I can't see how he loses the Hart at this point! |

I do recall saying Perry would run away with the Rocket three weeks ago & the only to reach 50goals, while others maintained Stamkos would hold on.
That said I think Perry deserves to win the hart, but I never know who's going to win these awards.

I think it applies to both evenly to be honest. Both Perry and Daniel benefit from a similar supporting cast.
Getzlaf could probably win an art ross, if he could actually play a full season with that line - he's only had 1 full season in the last 4, where he scored 91 points. He is consistently over PPG in production.
Ryan is the other part of that line, and is the least consistent of all 3 - he goes for long periods of time with nothing, and the breaks out for 10 points in a week. But he's still good for 70 points a year, and has 71 so far this year.
I see the ANA and VAN lines as being very similar - 2 awesome and one mediocre (relatively mediocre that is) on each one: Sedin/Sedin and mediocre Burrows for VAN, Getzlaf/Perry and mediocre Ryan on ANA. If anything, I would think Perry has a better supporting cast, given that Ryan is miles better than Burrows. |

Im definetly thinking he will catch up to Daniel Sedin. He is very hot lately and the Ducks are fighting for a playoff position as opposed to the Canucks who know where they are going to be and may rest their starters

Performance enhancing boosters? Funny how he suddenly goes on a tear out of nowhere. His previous best just over half of his current pace. You gotta wonder if he's had a little help. |

You do realize PED's while increasing strength, virtually eliminates stamina right? Guess you have the mindset that Ovechkin is finally off them to right? I mean what else could explain a 50 goal guy scoring 30 & 30 goal guy scoring 50? Thanks for the laugh guest.

Not that I'm trying to add any validity to our kind guest's suggestion, but you are incorrect Mario 66, steroids increase the body's endurance capacity and allow the body to recover faster between exertions. They aren't just for strength and mass building. This is why they are also effective in sports such as cycling. |
