I could organize it but I don't think we should start yet because we need to no all the teams that will be in the playoffs first.

All right so 16 teams make the playoffs, so we need 16 people and so far we got:
LeafsFan JB Patchy 1CF Framer Saku and Me (Semin)
So we need 9 more people!
Babs? OC? MIK? Beans? Willus?
Wanna join??
I'm guessing that it is going to be we all pick a team that is in the playoffs and draft players to that team??
How do you want to do it?

Is this gonna be a draft or everyone can have same players? And how big will teams be 6 Forwards 4 Defense 1 Goalie, I don't think there would be enough players for full team (12 F,6 D,2 G). What you guys think? |

The suggestion I had made earlier for a playoff pool involved a fantasy draft like the one we're doing for the GOAT draft. I mean you guys can go ahead and do a pool as you like, but I have no idea what this pool is cause there are no details. I'd be more than willing to run and create a playoff pool if we could do the fantasy draft because I like how it works. If a lot of people wanted in to THIS kind of pool, then we probably would have to split it up into a couple pools like it is now but it could definitely work. But then again I don't know what other members want to do... |

My two cents:
Drafting for a playoff pool the same way as you are doing for the GOAT draft could take a long time. Especially considering the lack of a break between the end of the season and the start of the playoffs. It would be easier to set a time and date and get the draft done in one evening.
We have two pages of chat here and still no organized pool. Babs said he would organize it so lets wait for him to post the rules.

Admin,
The reason we were just chatting about it was because I was gathering thoughts about what people were interested in doing. I was not planning on starting it right away because there are still 15-20 games for each team to play and the standings are not even close to decided yet. I was thinking about the fact that there will only be a few days between the end of the season and playoffs and I was going to suggest a way to get around that. I would like this topic to remain unlocked for a little while longer until the details of how the pool will work (as well as who might be participating) are sorted out. Once they are and I feel that we are ready to start, I will lock the thread. |

Just a thought, but a playoff pool can be very different from your GOAT draft. For the best team of all time, most people will choose, at the very least, similar players making it hard to differentiate the "greatness" of the teams, so a draft is necessary; but if you have a ten man playoff pool with 6 forward, 2 defense, and 1 goalie, I highly doubt there will be two teams with similar players (if someone believes Pittsburgh will lose the first round they likely won't pick Crosby, or if they think Devils will lose they won't pick Brodeur).
I was just commentating because the GOAT draft has barely gotten that far with the 9 most active individuals (babs even posting for multiple people now) in 5 days and the break is about 3-4 days. I, like anyone else, enjoy a good draft over mindless picking but maybe it's unfeasible. |

Which is why I was going to put an idea forward that would make a fantasy draft possible... Once my parents stop making me do this and that around the house I'll be able to sit down and type it... |

Ok here is my idea:
I would really love to do a fantasy draft because I think they're the most fun and most interesting. But, fantasy drafts over the web are hard, especially with contributors to this forum leaving in every corner (literally) of Canada and the US. So what I ask is that anyone who wants to join this be willing to participate in a very timely manner, as there will only be 2-3 days between the end of the regular season and the start of the playoffs (regular season ends on Sunday, April 8th so my guess is that the first round starts on Wednesday the 11th). I thought I had heard something earlier in the season about the date for the start of the playoffs having been set but I can't find it. If someone does, let me know.
Seen as we span out across 5 time zones, a schedule to draft players should be split up, say into 3 zones (West, Central and East - very original as always). Seen as there are probably more members from the West, we might be able to create a second Western draft, any adjustments can be made later. If there is an overflow of interest overall, other zones could be split up as well. Might sound complicated, but I know what I'm doing so there won't be a problem.
Now because there SHOULD be two full days off between the regular season and the playoffs, those are the days we should conduct the draft (obviously). I will set three draft starting times (all PM): 8 Pacific, 8 Central and 8 Atlantic on Monday the 9th through to the 10th if needed.
I will start another thread later asking when people would prefer to draft. Now if you live in BC, but 4PM would work better for you, then feel free to sign up for the 8AT draft. These are just times that I feel would be most convenient for the people living in those time zones. Please note that when you sign up for a time, that you should be available at that time and to allow for a couple hours for the draft to finish. If for some reason the draft doesn't get completed that night, then there is still Tuesday to finish it. I find that if we allowed for more time, people wouldn't make themselves available and it would defeat the purpose. Here is what I propose for the draft:
5 forwards, 3 defensemen and 1 goalie = 9 players. I don't think it's too much if the drafting gets done in a timely manner. When the GOAT draft rolled, it really rolled quickly so I think it's doable. Points would be simple:
1 point for: Goal Assist
2 points for: Goalie win Goalie shutout (extra)
Any comments/suggestions? |
