Crosby will more than likely win this poll but I think it's a toss up between Thornton, Crosby and Savard. I voted Savard. I'd love to see him centre Lecavalier, Selanne or Ovechkin. He's the next Adam Oates. Maybe even better. |

I voted Thornton and would have even if he was still in Boston. What Thornton does on top of making nice passes that sets him apart from the others is that, like I said in another thread, he pulls opponents away from the front of the net/slot to try to contain him, usually when he's behind the net. This opens up space for the wingers on his line, so he then just feathers a nice little pass to them. Playmaking is not just making nice passes, it's opening up room for plays to be made, and I think Thornton is the best in the league at doing it.
Savard and Crosby are great PASSERS, they just don't open up the ice like Thornton does. Not to take away from them though, they see the ice and make passes you didn't think were possible. |

I take it you are not the biggest Crosby fan? I know you're not trying to take anything away from guys like him and Savard and yes you are right playmaking is not just about passing...playing making is making something out of nothing. It's controlling the play. And to be completely honest with you I didn't think Crosby would win this poll just because everyone has so much against him for some reason...which is another thing I don't understand...but that is another matter of its own. Anyway, I think Crosby is the best playmaker in the NHL right now...not to take anything away from Thornton either. |

Chris Pronger. Not only through the outlet pass, but his QBing on the powerplay is undeniable. Most people would say a forward is the best play maker, but most often, the play is set up by a D-Man from the back. The forwards just have to finish.
Just my thought. |

there are lots of guys who could be considered and on any given day either one of them could be the best. But it's hard not to argue that J. Thornton is one of the best, if not the best on the most consistent basis. Babs is right, he commands attention and therefore opens up space. He's just entered his prime and he'll even get better. |

Guys it wasn't a COMPLETE fluke. Cheechoo is a 30-40 goal scorer and Thornton boosted that to 56 because that's the type of player that he is. Will Cheechoo ever hit 56 again? I think it's POSSIBLE, although less probable than him hanging around the 35 goal mark. Everyone is quick to forget (or doesn't know at all) that he's had some knee problems this year, causing him to miss at least a half dozen games and even when he plays he hasn't been 100% most of the year. Give him a full, healthy season and I say he scores 45 goals. |

tough poll..I like it. The problem is define playmaker..is it passer, visioner, sweet hands, seeing ice well I dont know. Best pure passes has to be wellwood puck to tape...best vision crosby, best hands to move puck Savard, best use of body to move puck Thornton, best overall playmaker Jagr. But remember to be a playmaker you need a scorer and who has the best scorers...Savard-Murray,Thornton-Cheechoo-guiren,Jagr-Shanahan,Crosby-Recchi.. Now make your pick |

0910, if you don't have anything to contribute except for misspelled personal attacks, please don't.
0920, you are way out to lunch! First of all being a playmaker is not just "getting an assist every game" something Spezza doesn't do anyways. It's about creating space for your linemates and being able to spot them anywhere on the ice and set them up for scoring chances.
By the way, Heatley scored 24 points in 14 games while Spezza was out, so you might want to reconsider your second statement too. |

1: Heatley dominated when Spezza was out of the lineup 2: He didnt get an assist last night and has well under an assist per game

Thanks for the insults. I am Canadian by the way. When you come on this site to make comments think about what you are saying because most people here try thinking objectivly when making a comment. As for your thought about Spezza, I agree he is a very good playmaker and maybe I should have put him up there. But I did put other which you could have easily selected and just specified that you thought it was Spezza.
But for the future please try not insulting anyone. Thanks. |

Brad Richards didn't even make the list?
For playmaking the best is probably Thornton, but Spezza and Crosby will be usurping him in the next year or so. |
