Lets not forget the contribution for the Bruins winning the cup to Brian Burke who gave us Seguin, Rask, and Kaberle. Hope you enjoy that piece of Sh*t Kessel for the next Couple of years.

Ryan Kesler is a BEAST!

Seriously? One sat on the bench the entire playoffs, one had 2 good games after barely cracking the lineup (then did NOTHING) and the other guy got blamed for everything since his arrival! You're prob one of the same guys screaming for Kaberle's head!!!

Thanks Boston for making it to the finals and adding a conditional 2nd round pick in 2012 as well as the 1st rounder in 2011 and a great 1st round drafted player Colbourne. Kaberle's contract was up and Burke did a great job maximizing his value. I will say that Rask did a good job keeping that bench warm in the playoffs.

I'm not saying Boston does care, I'm saying Burke made a really good deal with Kaberle... REALLY!

Actually folks, it was John Ferguson Jr. who gave Boston Rask. Burke gave them Kaberle and Seguin, and if I'm correct Boston still owns a first rounder from T.O. in the upcoming draft for Kessel (Two firsts{2010,2011}and a second {2010})...

hmmmm, his team wins the Cup for the first time since the early 70's and one of the first things he does is bash the Leafs. now here's a person with anger issues. did you go out and riot in Vancouver after you posted this?

How can you say Burke made a bad deal. He was wise enough to predict a Boston Cup, hence the drafting positions going way up in value for him with their win. He now has tons of new talent to pick from much like Perry , Getzlaf in Anaheim when he was there. I don't know about you but I'd rather take my chances on getting a guy like either of those 2 then Kaberle and Rask. Dont forget Reimer looks solid early on too. Toronto can go nowhere but up. I do disagree with the pickup of phaneuf though ,big hits can sometimes lead to being overrated which as a Flames fan I can tell you Phaneuf is (very bad in his positional game, usaully gets caught wandering or trying to throw the big hit) not to mention the 5-6 mill salary hit too. I think Leaf fans have been so used to bad they don't know what s good for them anymore

Just some minor points for posterity's sake.

Burke was Ducks' GM and VP starting in 2005. Getzlaf and Perry were drafted in 2003.

Also, I am pretty sure Boston's cup win had no bearing on the 2nd round draft considerations, otherwise I would have to wonder why he was consulted regarding Rome's suspension, which would then smell like collusion, as his consultation and subsequent suspension of one of Vancouver's starting players could very much be construed as influencing the outcome of the finals. The conditions attached were that Boston get to the finals, so yes he did have some omniscience there,

Now before Slozo wants to cut palms and shake on some incorrectly perceived blood-brotherliness......he did still sign Komisarek., and seems to have a man crush on Ron Wilson, and I still think he's overrated as a GM.

I think Burke is one of those guys who gets unfair judgement at times, but also gets undue credit at other times. Now that he's in hockey's biggest spotlight, I guess we'll get to see which is more deserved.

PS. I know it seems early to steer every thread towards Leafville, but someone's gotta start it, or it will be a long, long summer.

No. it's not too early. 7/1 free agency is a little over 2 weeks away (cue Brad Richards forum). The Leafs still require a bona fide #1 goaltender (cue James Reimer / Jonas Gustaffson / JS Giguere forum), defense is suspect (cue Schenn, Komisarek, Gunnarson, Kaberle, Whatsisname, Th'otherguy, Berard, McCabe, Salming, Turnbull etc. forum).

And then the draft!
Hey!
This is where Burke is known to shine!

If ha can manage to secure a pair of Scandanavian inbreeds for the Toronto franchise, then his tenure as GM is a fait accompli.

All he needs to do is move to another team, the Leafs will win the cup, and He will point his mighty Finger, and say, "Yeah. That was me".

PS Sorry about the innuendo about the Sedins. I actually feel for you Canuckleheads in the wake of the situation in Van City vis a vis the rioting and what not. It obviously had nothing to do with real hockey fans.

Best final series since 1990! Could we do without the BS?

Don't worry Fat Elvis, I don't think Burke is perfect either - we probably have similar opinions of him. I think he is very good at some aspects of the GM job, ok at others. Signing players is always a crapshoot, and it's not too hard to forgive him for a Komisarek deal, when it is outweighed heavily by a great Kaberle deal, a very good Versteeg deal, etc. More often than not, he gets good value when dealing in trades, and like everyone, he isn't perfect.

It is funny to have a Boston guy thanking Burke for what they got from him, without mentioning what they lost. As if Tyler Seguin and Kaberle were so much better than Kessel. Especially after Kabby got such a bad name in Boston! lol But Seguin had that 1 game of beauty, I will give him that. He might still tun into a second liner of some worth . . . then again, maybe not.

actually i've noticed quite a lot that whenever he talks about players like Reimer or Gunnarson he always gives credit to JFJ for drafting them. that shows a lot of class considering how much JFJ was disliked while he was the GM here.

boston won the cup, Tyler Seguin and Kaberle helped them do it, and sorry slozo but why would you think he may be a good second liner? the kid will be first line material within 3 years, would have been first liner on any of the crappy teams this year.

Guys this arguement is tiresome and fruitless.....plus its getting very old.

Boston received a great player in Tyler Seguin...plus this years 1st round pick....thats their highlights of Burkes actions.

Toronto received a pure sniper in Phil Kessel...this years 1st round pick...and former 1st rounder Joe Colbourne...thats the high lights of Burkes actions.

Seems like its a win - win situation for both teams.

Kaberle seemed out of place in Boston with hockey sports - writers in Bean town calling for his head.....Rask has NOTHING to do with Brian Burke...dumb - a$$ JFJ pulled this deal.

As ardent Leafers, how did you guys feel about seeing Kaberle skating around with cup? I thought it was nice to see, regardless if his impact or lack thereof to the quest.

Another quick kudo to Burke for helping Kaberle realize that by trading him.

(Can't believe I'm having feel good moments about the Leafs in any way, better call my doctor, or better yet, a good shrink!)

when i first saw it i thought good for him. well deserved accomplishment for the career he's had.
then my second thought was how long is it going to take for some pot-stirring troll to make a comment that slams the Leafs for helping Boston win the cup. then i saw this forum...

though it could have been worse. it could have went to OT with Seguin scoring the winner. that would've brought them all out from under the bridge.

First thing - It was enjoyable to watch Kaberle and the rest of the Bruins win the cup. For some reason I get the goose bumps everytime the Cup is won and the players get their turns skating around with it. Its just one of those things that is still exciting to watch I guess.

Next, I am sure Burke would like to take credit for Bostons success but lets remember at least one thing. Kaberle had a NTC that he would only waive to go to Boston. Burke did not have much of an option there. I think that given that circumstance, Burke got a very fair return.
Seguin is going to be a fine NHL'r but did very little in terms of helping Boston get its cup this year. Could be the man to help bring another cup to Boston in the future though.
Did Rask play a game?
Boston won the cup on pure hard work, they outworked a more talented team.
I am not a Burke fanatic, but I am not a Burke hater. But to say that the trades Burke made with Boston were the reason that Boston won the cup is absurd.

And yes, when Kessel is playing well, I will enjoy watching him play as a Leaf. At times he can be an exciting player to watch, just wish he would do it consistently.

Enjoyed seeing Kaberle lift the cup, good for him. Whatever any Toronto fan thought of his play on the ice, we always all agree he was nothing but a class act off the ice, never caused one ounce of crap. And that is nearly impossible to do in Toronto, where the media's glare will ferret out some dirt on you at some point it seems.

So yeah, good on him.

Of course, I never cheered on Boston for Kaberle, because, you know, it was Boston.

Ryder is big reason Boston winning is ok with me,, Bergeron and Ryder are pretty much the only two Bruins i can root for,, i never forgave Carbo for pushing Ryder out of mtl and was ever so happy for him the have a bounce back year the following year, plus this year i would argue consistently he was one of the Bruins top forwards in their cup run, i think overall only Krjeci and Bergeron were better than Ryder
