Are the Oilers ever going to win again? Do they even care anymore?? I mean 12 in a row and the absolute worst team since the trade deadline. I just wanted to hear other posters views on the Oliers recent skid.

If you watch the games there major problem is a huge lack of experiance on the blue line. They are missing severel key players up front and on the blue line. If you look at the VAN game the Offense was running pretty well. Horcoff, Torres & Nillson played very well together & looked like they had excellent chemistry. Good vision, sharp passing and plenty of shots. But Luongo is a force. And any team with Torres & a rookie on the top line won't win many hockey games. Not to mention Rolson sucks.

Give me a break, Im tired of people blaming this streak on Ryan Smyth, He was ONE player sure he was there leader but they should have sucked it up and played hard anyways, and I dont think its anything like losing your dad, thats like losing one f***ing player.

The Oilers record is 14.

I won't even address the "We lose because we're Smyth-less" comment. I did in the Smyth thread pretty vividly already. Check it out.

Geez, Sorry. Thats my opinion and you have yours. I still believe my though. Swearing dosnt really prove anything.

Well, if you really feel that trading away a player is like losing your dad, then there ought to be a lot more swearing coming your way. Canucks Man is absolutely right... sorry, you aren't.

Hey Saku. I like what you post, I just think it was a bit ill conceived to compare a trade to losing a dad! That's all!
Keep up the posting, and, hopefully, no hard feelings!
And yah, I'll be a bit surprised if they win another game. That team is so deflated, and there is no confidence out there at all. I think they've given up, but I don't think it's because Smyth is gone. I think it's because they all feel that management gave up on them. They weren't out of the playoff race completely on deadline day, but they were basically told that the owners don't believe in them. It would be hard to get up for a game when you feel no one believes in you.

Ok people, why is it that so many of you are bright people with good insight, yet you do not see what is right in front of you?? The Oilers have 11 INJURIES!!!! (Actually 10 now, Smid will play the next game) That is 50% of the team. They have had those injuries since before the trade deadline. Edmonton is not a team huge on talent to start with. They live off of hard work and chemistry. Take 50% of your team away and chemistry is gone.

And I stand by my opinion that ANY team in the NHL that loses 50% of thier team for any length of time would lose a lot of games too.

50% of our class was missing once because of some field trip but we still had chemistry

if each were 50% and 50+50= 100 that means both put together equals 100%
so mik you two jokes put together means 100% percent funny

Personally, the season is lost. Breaking the losing streak is nice, but it doesn't really matter. I would rather play spoiler for Calgary. I hope that the Oilers can contribute to the last game of the season, Cal vs. Col is for the right to go to the playoffs.

The Oilers have one defenceman who is experienced. Jason Smith can't play 50+ minutes. Our second-most experienced defenseman is Mat Greene, who is about to finish his first complete NHL season. He has what, 100 some games on his resume? Our next most experienced is Smid. He has like 70 some. Then come Gilbert, Syvret, and Young. Combined, they have like..20 some games. Our defense is completely full of rookies. Our offense is just as bad. Our leaders who are SUPPOSED to be scoring aren't, like Horcoff, Lupul, Sykora, Torres, and Hemsky. Those that aren't supposed to be scoring can't score. So you see, Oilers are majorly screwed. The only way we can win a game with our amount of offense is if our goalie hands us a shutout on his plate.

Before you start making excuses for the defense, look at what they have done. The Oilers are in the middle or in the top half of almost every defensive catagory. While the offense is near the bottom in every catagory. You can make a bunch of excuses about the players age and stuff, but that's not the issue.

I would take a hard look at the coaching staff. On paper, the Oilers have a great offense. Why do they not produce on the ice?? Even before all the injuries, the offense was horrible.

So when people are out there talking about the young defense and the injuries, don't forget to hammer on the coaching staff too. They deserve it.
