The trades are coming fast and furious now... Campbell to FLA. One year too late for CHI I guess, if only they could have done it last year, perhaps they would not have had to move so many pieces...

This is a "rush up to the cap floor" trade. And it's an indication of why the cap floor is way too high, and doesn't work towards parity at all . . .

Chicago should be punished for signing Campbell, but it's just last year's pain and now they are absolved. It's HUGE cap relief for the Hawks, who will suddenly be able to do all kinds of nice tweaks to their roster for what was largely a very expendable player.

On the other hand, Florida does get rid of a bit of a mess in Olesz (often injured, hasn't shown much promise) and they do get a puck moving d-man and a solid power play point man.

Too bad that in my draft pool, defencemen +/- is counted, otherwise I would have Campbell as a great "steal" pick in the mid rounds.

'Cause I seriously don't see Florida as any more competetive yet, especially with Vokoun leaving. But they get closer to the cap floor, which is what this was all about.

Great trade for Chicago, The sudden cap space they have to work with will help them fill in their needs. And a puck moving defenseman like Campbell is not one.

Florida is closer to the cap floor like Slozo pointed out and Campbell is a very talented player and he can step it up when he's the center of attention. Good trade for both teams.
