The headline (Craig MacTavish joins Canucks) is not entirely accurate. He actually picked up the Head Coach job with the Canucks farm team (Chicago Wolves), which makes me wonder…what's better? Landing a head coach job with an AHL team or taking an assistant's job with an NHL club? I'm not suggesting MacTavish had an offer (or opportunity) to be an assistant coach in the NHL, especially since some coaches are careful who they bring in as their assistant coach(es). And former head coaches do not always make good assistants.
Good for MacTavish! He wasn't made out to be a TSN analyst. In my opinion, he was okay on the TSN panel, but not as good as I thought he would be.
