I appreciate that everyone is voting with their hearts but let's try and be objective here. Seriously look at an entire division and make your selection. Otherwise I would have made this poll "Who is your favorite team?" |

All we're asking for is some objectivity. If you truly believe the Habs will win then your vote is legit. But the question is which Division has the best chance, so by it's phrasing I am asking you to look at the ENTIRE division when making your selection. |

I seriously think the Sabres will win it. Look at 'em--tied for first in the league, and the only reason Detroit has the same number of points is because they have an easy division. Sabres in '07.
(Plus, Afinogenov will be coming back for the playoffs which will help boost them even more) |

Sorry bud Vancouver's already clinched. More than I can say about Montreal though!
Anyways, how is the Pacific not getting any nods? I mean obviously I will vote for them for my team but look they're also represented by Anaheim and Dallas. That's a superdivision if you've ever seen one.
Yet in the past two years, the winner has come from the weakest regular season division in the league... |

Lol, the Northwest??? Who exactly is going to win the Cup from the Northwest??? It is blatantly obvious that the majority of people visiting this site are Canadian when the Northwest is overwhelmingly winning this poll. I like the Wild and I still think the results of tihs poll are ridiculous.
All three of the Central, Northeast and Pacific have at least two very legitimate Cup contenders whom are all better than the Wild, Canucks and Flames and not one of those divisions them is winning this poll, lol. |

---- I agree Babs. Pacific is waaaaaaay strong for the reasons you said and is the only div with 3 true contenders in my opinion. ---- Central with NSH and DET look good. ---- Northeast with BUF and OTT deserve some votes especially if OTT can buck the jinx they have had over the years. ---- Can never count out NJD with Brodeur but I don't think that PIT has a real chance of going all the way so that diminishes the chances for the Atlantic. ---- Of course I'm rooting for Calgary but they are seeded a little low and have a huge uphill battle being the away team. VAN is a false team in my opinion, Luongo is holding them in and I keep expecting their house of cards to fall down. So chances are low for the Northwest. ---- Southeast doesn't have a chance if TBL doesn't make the playoffs.
So I'm thinking Pacific or Northeast. But you all know my heart is in the Northwest. Go Flames!

So sign up and tell a few friends out east. It's really that easy G0351. We could definitely use some more eastern and/or southern view points.
I wouldn't say the Northwest is winning "overwhelmingly" it's only by 2 votes. |

I'm Eastern and compared to you all I'm southern! Lol
Btw Leigh, Detroit and Nashville have proven themselves against CBJ, Chicago, and St. Louis (which isn't that hard to do), but when they enter the playoffs they'll have to beat good teams. Considering the fact that they've played weak teams several times all season, I dunno if they can last to the finals in the playoffs. But we shall see...(miracles can happen )

Again with this Red Wings' division is easy crap. So what, Carolina's division was pretty easy last year and that did not stop them from winning the Cup. Tampa barely made the playoffs and Florida, Washington and Atlanta all missed the playoffs last year.
Fine the Blackhawks stunk again this season but Nashville is obviously one of the best teams in the league, the Blues have been very solid in the second half and even Columbus has been more competitive than they were last season.
There are many reasons the Red Wings have as many points as Buffalo not just one. And please note the Western Conference will very likely have 8 "100" point teams in the playoffs and is the tougher conferenece this season. Nothing against Buffalo, I like them to go very deep into the playoffs otherwise I would not have loaded up on Sabres in my hockey pool. :)
Peace! |

Looks like some people from Vancouver here so far???
I went Pacific. SJ/Ananheim/Dallas. Not shot in the dark or outsiders. Any three of those team could reasonably win it.
Can't see how any other division measures up to that.
And to all you Van fans, just for kicks. Calgary has as good of a chance if not better than the Canucks if they can get in, and neither really have that great of a shot. Nor Minny. Not one of those teams could beat SJ or the Ducks in a 7 game series. |

Sorry I am not going to go campaign for this poll, I already voted for the Central, the problem is Toronto and Montreal are not guaranteed to make the playoffs otherwise the Northeast would probably be winning this poll. |

I think 37% to 19% is pretty overwhelming and where do you get this two vote difference it was like 9-4 in favour of the Northwest when I posted my comments and now it is 10-5.
I think 40% percent to |

Could someone explain to me why when they say the northwest is going to win that they only list vancouver or calgary as contenders, what about minnesota. They are a contender over Calgary, they have depth in their goaltending, red hot going into playoffs (8-1-1 in their last 10), they have speed and gaborik and demitra are building chemistry, they have an impressive home record, and even though they currently sit in 7th they have a good chance at finishing 5th or 6th even at 3rd.
They have just as good as team as anybody in the Northwest and if they go into playoffs like they are now then they will blow through the first round. |

I'm going to base this on the team that has been on fire since Christmas. Since the Canucks have been extremely hot(only 5 regulation losses) since then I would have to say the canucks have a good chance of taking it. They are only FOUR points away form first place people. And from a game under .500 before christmas to FOUR points away from first place, the Canucks are more than ready to FINALLY win the CUP.

Ok guys, good points but we're talking divisions here. Just because Vancouver is hot doesn't mean that the Northwest division as a WHOLE has a better chance. To me, Vancouver is the only contender in the division, with Minnesota having a slight chance. But when you have three power houses in the Pacific, who could deny them having better chances of succeeding than the NW? |

Im not denying the Pacific anything, but when you say three power houses and that Vancouver is the only contender in the west, The Canucks are 3 points up on 2 of those 3 teams and only 3 points behind the ducks with a game in hand, also Minnisota has the same amount has San Jose and Dallas so according toyou they are also a power house

Well I'm considering the fact that Minnesota also has a very inexperienced goaltender. Then again, they could be the surprise team of the playoffs, no one knows. I just have a hunch that Minnesota will be one of the weaker playoff teams. |

The Pacific is a veery strong division this year and probably has the best chance of winning the cup. But don't count out the North East, Buffalo has a good chance and their division isn't exactly a walk in the park either, there could possible be 4/5 north east division teams in the playoffs. So that's why I voted for them.

Guys, the teams in the Central division may have a lot of points, but that doesn't mean theyr're great. Nashville and Detroit are in a division with St. Louis, Columbus, and Chicago. They each play 24 games against them. No offense, but St. Louis, Columbis, and Chicago aren't too good. It's so easy for Detroit and Nashville to get high points, because they play against crappy teams. You notice that Detroit and Nashville have been eliminated in the first round of the playoffs almost every year for the past five years? It's because they're not that great of a team. For Detroit, they need a much more solid goaltender. No offense to all the Hockeytown fans, but Hasek isn't as good as you think. For Nashville, their goaltenders need to step up their game. Vokoun and Mason have been doing pretty good, but to bring Nashville to the Finals, they need to be outstanding. (Like Roloson in the playoffs last year ) Now, as for the actual question, i think the Pacific or the Atlantic division. The Northeast has a good chance too, with Ottawa and Buffalo. The Pacific is stacked with crazy teams. Anaheim, San Jose, but The Atlantic has two giants though. They have the Crosby team and the Brodeur team. The Penguins need better goaltending, the Devils need better offense. So, I would have to say that the best chance goes to the Pacific. The three monster teams would have to dominate over the rest of the NHL. However, the Northwest division is actually quite unique. It's the only division with all teams above .500. In every other division, there's always some crappy team(s) that people can pick on. This year, the Oilers are getting their butts kicked, but they're still OK. Things just haven't been going too well for them, especially after Smyth left. (I still remember Mcgeough.) Should Luongo continue to have his outstanding play, he could easily bring the Canucks to the Finals. If you look at the second half of the season, Luongo has better Save % and GAA than Brodeur. It's just that he had a bad start in the season. But, to be fair, Pacific has the highest chance of producing the 2007 NHL Stanley Cup Winner. |

This year is so difficult to pick a team to win the cup that unfortunately a poll like this becomes a "who is your favourite team" poll. I think there are about 13 teams going in to the postseason who have a legitimate shot at taking the cup this year. The reason the other 3 don't is strictly because of their goaltending whoa's. Those teams would be Ott, the 7th and 8th place finishers, assuming TB makes one of those positions, and one additional out of the remainder.
Buffalo is probably the best team in the NHL this season, and have been able to maintain their record through an ugly year of injuries. I think if they can get the main one back in Afinogenov, then we may see them pulling it out.
Having said that, with the way the west has played this year against the east, I have to believe that the cup contender will come out of the west.
I have picked the Pacific, but I was torn between that and the Northwest. The reason is simple. Goaltending! I have seen the Pacific teams turn it on down the stretch here. If their goaltending stays consistent, I think that both Anaheim and San Jose have a legitimate shot. I will be one of the few to predict Dallas as the weakest team in the conference once the postseason starts. But The 2 big ones were enough to sway my decision in that direction.
The Northwest could easily provide the cup winner this season as well. Luongo, the Kipper, and Minny's duo between the pipes could easily be enough with the compliments of their offence. |

You know what Leigh... people have been saying that ever since Christmas.. and you know what else... I have been one of them. Problem is, they have proven us all wrong. Luongo has been extremely solid, and certainly has stolen some games, but the Nucks have been winning even on his 'off' games. In the entire league, only Buffalo and Nashville have more wins, and this is with Vancouver having a poor 1st half. I still am not overconfident, but proof is proof. They have still proven to me that they are certainly not a one-trick pony and a good 'team'. That being said, the west is so so tough, all the series' are going to be battles. I don't have a big preference who I hope are the Nucks 1st round opponents, althought i'm kinda hoping that it is Dallas. If you go with the statistical odds, i'd say either the Northwest or Pacific will win the cup as each has 3 strong contenders, and I believe that the West is much stronger in general than the East. I think the East team who makes it to the finals has to hope that the Western teams have beaten themselves up along the way. |

I really don't care who wins the cup and who's in the playoffs as long as there is playoff hockey and not a stupid lockout. |
