So with new allignment i was wondering if there would be new teams added and moving from the 30 teams and going to 32 or something like that. What would you say can be the most profitable cities for a team in the nhl that DO NOT already have one.

I personally think the best spot would be halifax. give the east coast of canada something to cheer about.

New teams?? How about fewer teams?? The League is already watered down in the talent pool in my opinion. 4th line players today would have not made the cut in the 80's and 90's and definitely would have not been NHL players backed in the 50's and 60's when most teams carried 9 forwards rather than 12.

If 2 teams were dropped from the NHL making a 28 team league, that would mean the 4 weakest goalies and 42 weakest 4th line players would be dropped. The talent pool would be deeper and more teams would be better.

I don't want to see more NHL teams. I think the fact that for each of the past 10 years there have been at least 50% of the NHL teams barely breaking eveh or losing money says that less teams would be a more reasonable answer.

I think that in the near future, the NHL is WAY more likely to lose teams as opposed to gain teams.

Under the new set-up, it is very likely that if Phoenix is moved to either Quebec or Toronto area, that it will be a simple move from their western conference to the Toronto conference, giving them 8 teams. If moved to Hartford, then it joins the Atlantic Conference.

But one of Florida or Carolina could easily move or fold . . , as could Columbus and a handful of other teams.

A straight-up new team to be added to the league seems hardly possible at this point, especially with all economic factors in the USA and Canada pointing to disaster in the near future.
