I don't know if we've had a topic like this before, but I'm wondering if any of you have nicknames for your favorite players? Here are a couple of mine...more to come soon.
Jason Pominville - J-Pom (as in "I love the smell of J-Pom in the morning") Mats Sundin - BDS (Big Dumb Swede) Darcy Tucker - Mother Tucker Daniel Briere - The Cookie Monster - stolen from Rick Jeanneret Colin White - Bad Human Being Claude Lemieux - Turtle-Dee Chris Neil - Turtle-Dumb

Haha yeah I give players nicknames
Afinogenov - Affy Yashin - The Yashin Machine Lundqvist - Lungfish, Lunkhead, and Lucky Miller - The Millipede Kozlov - Kozzie (that may really be his nickname actually) St. Louis - Shorty Peltonen - The Fanged Finn (he lost his two front teeth so it looks like he has fangs)
There are probably others but that's all I can think of for now. I like your nickname for Sundin, manninm! |

I think a lot of the actual players nicknames have the -y or -er suffix attached. Like Miller is Millsy or Rob Ray was Rayzer....I guess hockey players aren't too creative...

Luongo has a random nickname, "Bobby Loo"....Anyone got a better one for him? Emery has the best "Sugar Ray"......I think St.Louis or Brierre should be called "the little engine that could"....But that Jaromir anagram stuff, what are the odds of that, eh?
And of course I have a great nickname for sid......A joke.

Gotta love Sugar Ray, given his golden gloves background. I like Briere and St. Louis' too. I still prefer the Cookie Monster for Briere tho

That's just what we do here in North America. It's kind of like a pet name, a bit like your diminutives in Russian, except they're usually based on the last name. |

I called Mario "Super Slo-Mo" in his final days. Not nice, but it fit.
Sidney Crosby - "The Wizard of Cros"
Jarome Iginla - "Iggy"
Gonchar - I call him "Glaci-ar" because he skates like a glacier
Kovalchuk - "Upchuk"
Jeremy Roenick - "Buble" because he's always singing
Datsyk - "Dat-sucks"
Lindros - "The Big E", "E-train"
That's all I can think of right now...

Lol I call him that too.
Other nicknames I use: Matthew Lombardi - Matthew Lardbody (doesn't really fit since he's so fast, but if he does something like score the winning goal against your team, calling him that is a good way to let out fustration) Daniel Girardi - Giarrdia Zdeno Chara - The Super Slovak |

Hey 1603, since you're Swedish I thought I'd ask you this: Is Hank a nickname for Henrik? A lot of announcers seem to call Lundqvist and other players with the name Henrik "Hank", so I was just wondering. |

We used to have nicknames for so many NHLers when playing Sega hockey. One really good one I remember was for Dimitri Yuskevich. We called him Dimitri You-skate-b*tch. Strangely, that's about the only one I recall. They used to have good ones on Sportsline on Global TV when Jim Tatti was on there calling highlights. Steve Konowalchuk was Steve Killer-whale-tank.
