How about the Plager brothers for St. Louis Bill, Bob, and Barclay, they played in the late 60's and earlie 70's on the same team...will the Staals have a chance to do that?

Peter is the only Statsny superstar that I am aware of. Anton was decent, but was nothing special without Peter. Paul is looking good, but has a long long long way to go.

I can't see anyone coming close to the Sutters - Hard to beat them just by the sheer numbers. Brent, Brian, Duane, Darryl, Ron, Rich, and now Brandon... With I believe 3 of them being 40 goal NHL scorers.. How can you beat that?
What are the odds? |

| Marian had 294 points in 322 games, so that isn't that great with 89 points for a record in one season, I guess, but Anton had 636 in 650 games with a 92 point record in one season, and Paul has 78 points |

None of the Sutters were as good as the Hulls, I never implied that. I simplly stated that I believe the Sutters to be the best 'hockey family' as the question actually asks. Also, I don't know what you have been smoking, but you must be joking if you think that they are all grinders and that's it. They all had the Sutter work-ethic, sure, but Brent and Brian were also very skilled and a far cry from blue-collar grinders. As a matter of fact, all the brothers (less Rich) had relatively productive careers. |

Its a toss up between the Statsny's and Sutter's, but how about the Howe's. Gordie and his sons deserve recognition before some of the others.

My vote goes Sutter without questions. I know that the Hull's were more offensively skilled, but how can you argue with 6 brothers who all not only make the NHL, but are legitimate players. That is amazing. All except for Darryl were drafted 17th or higher. Combined they played 80 NHL seasons and had 31-20 goal, 10-30 goal, and 4-40 goal season. Not saying they were the best offensive players out there, but not that shabby. They also have 6 Stanley Cups between them as players.
Also, think of them as coaches, GM's, scouts, etc. Three of them have coached at the NHL level. Between them, a WHL Championship(plus twice runners up), a Memorial Cup, a Turner Cup (IHL), 2 World Junior Championships(undefeated through two tournaments), and a Stanley Cup runner up.
I bet I am missing a bunch of stuff too. This was all found in about 10 minutes.
There is not a "Hockey Family" that matches that. Not even close. If you were to say best family in terms of play, I could hear an arguement for a few others. But in regards to "best hockey family," no one touches the Sutters. Not even remotely close.

| um.... The Gretzkys, the only reason thats there is because of Wayne, Brent had like what 20 pts... so really they should not even be mentioned. my pick is for the Espositos they would be the best i think. |

The Espositos are a great pick. I would personally put them at #2. Reason being is simple math. 2 brother in hockey are not the same at 6 brothers in hockey.

| my reason is because tony was one of the greatest goalie's and the Phil was one of the greatest forwards to play, if only there was a d-man to go with that family, the sutter's were good, i think they are better as coaches( managment) but i guess that still makes them a great family. just as a playing family the Espositos will win in my mind, all around Beans15 is right the sutters take the cake. |

hockster, I feel the same way about the Patrick family. Their contribution to the sport, not just the league, extends back over a hundred years uninterrupted, pre-dating the NHL itself. This goes beyond just on-ice exploits - oh they had those too, but they did much more than that. Frank, Lester, Muzz, Lynn, Craig and there's a few more...
What they did for hockey is amazing and astounding! |

Its gotta be the Sutters. 6 in the first generation, 3 of whom were better than average players, 3 NHL head coaching jobs, a couple were team captains, and the second generation is just coming along now.
Strong marks for the Espositos and Richards too.
Also the Brent Gretzky argument is just silly IMO.
