Ok Alex, Now you have gone and done it this time. I have watched and supported the Leafs since I was a kid and I watched them win Stanley Cups probably before you were born. I also watched them knock Ottawa out of the playoffs all four times they have met in the playoffs. Yes, they are at a low ebb the last couple of years but you don't just change allegiances just because your team is bad right now. What kind of a fan is that? Anybody can just say they are a fan of this team or that team. When Edmonton was winning Stanley Cups there were kids all over the place around here wearing Edmonton sweaters. What a joke, half of them probably didn't even know what province Edmonton was in? Loyalty is a trait that some people take pretty seriously and others just don't get it. You make your bed and you lie in it!!! You make your choices and you stick by them!!! You stand behind your team through thick and thin!!!! Do any of these phrases mean anything to you? Win, lose or draw.........The Maple Leaf Forever Baby!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

You know, I have been trying to ignore this topic ever since I started using this site because I do not like to reign on somebody else's parade unless I have to but "Hockey Town" was a self annointed title that Detroit decided to call themselves after winning a couple of cups in the last few years. So be it. If it makes them feel good then run with it. It doesn't bother me in the least. I know it is just self serving bulls*** because they can't even sell out there games. Besides, the last time I checked Detroit was a city......not a town? You really have to admire their pompousness though. Look at Chicago for instance. It is called The Windy City. At least they are telling the truth. LOL |

Antro, you touched on a key point The MAJORITY of guys in Toronto are bandwagonners, not loyal fans. I admit it takes a lot of character to remain a true Leafs fan, but Toronto, as a city, are not a city of loyal fans, and Toronto even with the loyal fans, would not be a hockey city.
Just as Nashville Preds where he comes from. Or, actually, ask me! I have always enjoyed the Leafs success, but in reality, have been a Habs fan. Growing up in Toronto, the only reason I look forward to them going far is to see a cup parade. But as my dad grew up in the 70s in Montreal, you cant blame me for having some blue (and red and white) blood in me
Habs get number 25 this year |

Hey Alex.......Did you watch the movie "The Rocket"? If you did you would know that back in my day there was actually quite a rivalry going on between the French and The English in this country. This rivalry manifested itself in the game of hockey. Believe me, it was a war. We hated them and they hated us. Fortunately I was able to rational how stupid it was for people to go around disliking each other for no other reason than their nationality but my dislike for the Habs still sits deep within my psyhe. I have rooted against them my whole life and I don't care who is playing them. When the Leafs knocked them out from making the playoffs last year it was like winning the cup for me. Don't worry, I dislike Ottawa almost as much but it isn't in my blood like it is with the Habs. I quite honestly hope and prey neither one of them wins another game. Just being truthful with you Alex. This is not a personal attack. |

No town in the states can claim title to being a "Hockey Town". No americans know how to play hockey. |

Have any of you people even been to the City of Champions or met a harcore supporter of the copper and blue................apparently not!.
First things first. If we were to start talking about the importance of Stanley Cups in discussions of "hockeytown" people will naturally assume Montreal and Toronto to be the kings. That judgment is flawed. You say Edmonton hasnt won in 18 years? Try 40 without even making the finals. How about the 15 year drought of the Habs? Lets not forget that the Oil has made the finals more recently than Detroit, hkalirah. Did we not eliminate the Mighty Winged Wheel in the first round? I believe so.
Now, furthermore, we discuss fan support. I dont think you can "measure fan support", but also believe you cant get any BETTER than Edmonton. WE, dont disown our players, coaches, and gms the way T.O. does (raycroft, ferguson, antropov the proof is all there). Edmonton fans starting taking over singing the anthem before the game. It was real and genuine, very awesome to see. When other teams tried to no avail to mimick it, it was flat-out embarassing and ridiculous to see, almost an insult.
What does it matter that we have not seen our team win a cup. That is not relevant in the context of the discussion. we made the finals more recently than detroit, i cant say that enough!!
peter pocklington wanted to move the team to houston because he was a selfish ass only interested in teh security of his own business ventures, not the success of his proud hockey club.
so before you rattle your snouts, consider the facts and think a little outside of your Motown box.
WE ARE HOCKEYTOWN!!!!! |

You know, apart from all this silly bantering back and forth, the one thing that unites us all is the fact we all love hockey. When we decide to back a certain team then the passion for the game escalates and we become protective of our choice and sometimes a little or a lot biased toward that team, depending on the individual. Being defensive toward something you are passionate about is a normal basic human trait......it can also be a great deal of fun. As long as we remember to not cross the line by trying to personally threaten or belittle each other with derogatory insults, then we can all enjoy the trash talk and team bashing which goes hand in hand with being first and foremost a hockey fan. As for this Hockey Town thing, it was self annointed and in the big scheme of things carries little or no weight at all. To me the Wings are just another foreign hockey team.....no more.....no less!!!!!!!!!! |

I agree with antroman for once. Canadians are hockey. I will cheer for any Canadian hockey team. The only place that can claim a hockeytown title is all of Canada. |
