The sabres had lost a little more talent than the islanders had, but hte islanders did lose a lot of key players
what do Calgary and a tea bag have in common- they're both only good for one cup |

I would say that Buffalo had the worst effect on this offseason. They lost two leaders and gifted scorers and clutch performers.
Second place is only first place of the losers. |

It's between Nashville and NYI. Nashville lost power forward Hartnell, PP QB Timonen, fairly stellar goaltender Vokoun, fast 1/2 line winger Kariya, and probably franchise center Forsberg...NYI lost gritty leading scorer Jason Blake, 2nd/3rd line winger Richard Zednik, 2nd line winger Viktor Kozlov, top four d-man Tom Poti, 1st/2nd line winger Ryan Smyth. Buffalo lost Briere and Drury. They will survive that loss and carry on. It won't be as easy but they aren't out of the race. Their offence can handle the blow. I'm going to give it to Nashville though. Nashville lost an elite goalie, 2 elite forwards, a great puck moving d-man and a fairly young power forward. |

It's gotta be Buffalo or Nashville. Briere, Drury, and Zubrus and Timonen, Hartnell, and Vokoun are both talented trios of skill and leadership that are going to be hard to replace. NYI wasn't that good in the first place so they're gonna drop from bad to worse rather than from great to bad. Going from the #1 seed in the East or the #3 seed in the West to a potential much lower spot is gonna be a big blow. |

I think buffalo will obviously suffer the affects of losing their two co-captains yet now that the pressure is off them similiar to 2 seasons ago when they made it all the way to the conference finals and losing to carolina with a short bench. Not much is expected of them and i think with guys like Vanek, Roy, Pominville, Afinogenov, Kotalik, Hecht and a strong back end on d along with Miller in net with a year more experience, the sabres will finish top 5 or 6 in the conference and i think can suprise some teams in the playoffs. The only teams i see that are better than them on paper so far are Ottawa, Rangers and probably Pitsburgh. |

Are you kidding? Those guys can still get the job done. True the team won't be as strong without Briere and Drury but they're balanced--it's not like those two ruled the show and everyone else had no talent. The Sabres aren't dead, just in a coma. |
