We can all speculate how great a player may have been if he played a different position in the NHL, than he did in his Junior and earlier years.
I am a Leaf’s fan as you all know, and I thought, as others have that Kaberle would make a great winger, but would he.
I think with his great puck handling, and skating that he would be able to carry the puck from behind the net, up the ice, into the offensive zone and set up an easy goal.
Well is it not one of the jobs of the defense to advance the puck to the forwards…If Kaberle is on forward when will he be behind the net getting ready to advance the puck, oh, oh he is out of position…
How many players do you know that played a different position in Junior, and became a superstar in the NHL ?
I will keep the list on the first page with their stats…

The one that came immediately to mind is Mark Howe. He played forward in junior and pro. He was a forward in the WHA and early on in his career in the NHL would switch back and forth to defense. He then played defense full time and became one of the best defensemen of all time.

Christoph Shubert and Steve Staios are two players that switched they're positions. That's all I know.
And I think Brian Campbell would be a good forward, he is a great skater, good passer and could set up some goals I bet. |

I can not find any info that Napier played as a defenseman and then switched to forward.
Fedorov played in Russia as a forward with Bure, and Mogilny, was drafted as a forward. He does play defense on the power play, but I am talking about players like Mark Howe that totally changed poitions...

hmm. I could remember the colour commentator saying something about Napier switching over. My memory may have slipped me, but I know there was someone there who switched positions on the Canadiens in the early 80s.
I know it is from D to O because of the big three in the back that prevented him from playing his natural position.

Wendel Clark was a defenseman in the WHL for the Saskatoon Blades. When he was drafted into the NHL by Toronto he was switched to the wing. his best sesaon saw him score 46 goals...I think he is another player to fit the mold...
