I can Calgary and Ottawa for sure. Vancouver is likely, but Edmonton, TO, and Montreal have an outside shot at best.

I agree with you Beans, Calgary and Ottawa on paper should make it. Vancouver is in, unless Luongo has the first bad season of his career. Of the other three I think Edmonton might surprise us all (gut feeling, no real reason except being extreme underdogs) And now that Toronto has a decent goalie they might make it. I guess if I was betting I'd say TO because the goaltending situation will be really competitive and both guys will be playing well to keep/steal a job. |

I think Edmonton is in too tough, unless some of then rooks are amazing or they pull the trigger on another trade for a top 6 forward. I can't see them keeping up with anyone in the division. The way I see the West for teams that will be there for sure are:
Detroit, Colorado, Anaheim, San Jose, Dallas, Calgary.
That leaves two spots. With Minnesota and Vancouver being the front runners to get those. St. Louis, Edmonton, and LA have an outside chance. Chicago, Nashville, Phoenix, and Columbus are not going to be there.
In the East, I see this:
Pittsburg, NYR, Ottawa, Buffalo, and Atlanta(only because of the weak division) are going to be there.
That leaves Tampa Bay, Carolina, New Jersey as likely to be taking the other three spot. TO, Montreal, Washington, and Philly have a chance. Boston, NYI, and Florida will not be there.
That's why I can see Calgary and Ottawa for sure, Vancouver more than likely, and Edmonton, Mont, and TO more than likely on the outside. I agree that EDM could surprise and TO's goaltending improvements could get them there. But TO outside of the crease doesn't have enough tools to get them 95+ points to assure them a spot. I don't think MONT will be there. They really have done nothing to improve the team, and the were average at best last year.

I took a few minutes to count the number of Canadian teams selected in the two Topics that are currently in use. "Top-8", and Playoffs 07-08.
