Robyn Regehr. He is big, mobile, blocks shots and lays the big hits. I would love to have him on my team.

I voted Jason Smith. From his years in Edmonton, he's against the opposite team's top line all the time, kills penalties, blocks shots with the best of them, and plays with more heart that most other players on the ice.

I would put Hamrlik up there too. I have always been a fan of his.

Wayne or Bobby?? How about both!!!

I don't think Hamrlik is really classified under "stay at home defenceman" He's been around the 40 point range for a while now.

I didn't know that stay at home defensemen weren't allowed to score.

They are allowed to score. Hamrlik just doesn't play as defensive a style as any of these guys mentioned.

I voted other and although he may not be the best, I think Brett Clark of the Colorado Avalanche is very good. He leads the avs with 39 blocked shots, averages 23 plus minutes a game, and has some offensive upside to him. For a guy who was basically unknown untill after the lockout season, and has been in the minor leagues for most of his career, is doing an incredible job in the NHL for the Colorado Avalanche.

I selected Jason Smith, Edmonton will miss his defensive skills, and his leadership, he is a great warrior.

I still miss him from when he was in Toronto, and he is what they need right now.

I don't necessarily agree with everything I say.

I voted other for Jay Mckee. He is way underrated. He blocks shots, clogs up passing lanes and is great on the PK. He was a key figure for Buffalo and they really should of kept him. He doesn't get much press in St. Louis but he is great.

Defenseman to watch out for:
Mike Komaserik on Montreal. I watched the Leafs game last night and he was good. He looks like a good, big defenseman.

Probably Jason Smith. Why the Oilers got rid of him, I can't understand one bit.

I voted other, however. I have to show my loyalty to Nick.

I think the reason the Oilers gave up Smith is that they have Staios and Greene as two, fairly capable, stay at home d-men. (I personally think Greene is under-rated as a solid, young, stay at home d-man). The thing the Oilers were missing was a puck moving d-man. So give up a stay at home guy(a good one too) for a puck moving guy in Pitkanen.

That was also before the picked up Souray. I wonder if the Oilers would have stayed with Lupul and Smith if they had Souray right after then free agent pool opened??

Wayne or Bobby?? How about both!!!

That makes sense, I just think Smith was the one of the bunch to keep. the guy is such a gamer. Who knows - there might be more to it than we know.

Ohh I dont know about that choice LF101. Jay Mckee had one great season with the Sabres. I think he lead the league in blocked shots.

But since then, let me ask you something. Has he gotten any attention since whatever year he had that good season?

I think he was just a one hit wonder or in this case a one good season wonder.

I voted Volchenkov, simply because how great his play was in Ottawa's run last year. And there's no doubt how his style of game has continued and improved in the early part of this season.

I dont think Komisarek has what it takes to be a premiere defenceman in the league.

He has the big body that is key to a good player in the league. The other assets as in smarts, speed, skill, and puck handling are suspect for him.

Komisarek's got my vote hands down. Did you see the game on Tuesday night??? He was the best d-man out there(and he's only getting better). I understand it might be tough recognizing defensive talent when you have watch McCabe night in and night out. Maybe ask Tucker if Komisarek got the goods.

Francois Beauchemin in the Anaheim Ducks... He's not only the best stay at home defencemen, he is also the most underrated player in the NHL...

Volchenkov. Either him or Smith.

Vitaly Vishnevski, I think he is very underated after seeing him play this year. He can move well, throws big hits and casn make big plays.

He isn'y in the same league as Smith, volchenkov and maybe even Regehr.

Pronger
He doesn't always stay home - but he's as good as it gets in his own end (as well as neutral zone and offensive end).

Easily Smith. He is a very good leader, too, which makes him all the more worthy of my vote.

Habs get number 25 this year
