There's always been discussions about players getting over paid or players that deserve more. So why doesn't the NHL give the players their contract but keep it Private, only keep it for the Franchise. If the Franchise was the only people who knew about it the Media wouldn't get on players case's of getting paid too much. IE-Theodore,Gomez,Vanek. Those players are good but maybe the media is a reason there not doing well and the pressure that goes along with it. The Fans know how much they're getting paid and if they make a mistake and are getting paid 10 million a year the Fans would get mad at them. But if the fans didn't know how much money they were making they wouldn't get mad at them.
So I think they should start to make Private Contracts just in the Franchise. Don't release the amount of money. You can say that they've signed the player for a certain amount of years but don't say the money they're making.
Then it will make the team more EQUAL in a way. If the Fans don't know they can pretty much think that the whole TEAM is equal.
Thoughts?Comments?

Don't quote me on it, but I think it's part of the CBA that contracts have to be disclosed. I think it has something to do with players going to arbitrations or re-negotiating contracts. In a free market system, a commodity is priced at the value the market can bear and what it's value is comparted to other products. The NHL is no differet. If a 30 goal, 75 point scorer averages $3 million/season a guy who scored 30 goals and 75 points last year going into negotiations should know that. Also, when arbitrators rule on contracts, they have to be in the same ball park as similar players.
I like the idea for the media sake, but in a Cap System, there has to be some kind of disclosure as well. Every team has to be above the table on what they are paying each player.
Nice idea, just not reasonably practical in the current system

Another issue that would pop up is the fact that there’s always a leak somewhere. How else do we find out about trades before they happen, or signings?
