I turn on Sportscentre this evening to watch NHL highlights and I have to watch a bunch of children first?! I hate the hype lame wads make over the World Juniors. Common, who wants to spend there spare time watching a bunch of Kids shoot a puck around, when I could just as easily watch the NHL? I know there's that cheesy national pride thing, but can't everyone grow up a little bit and toss that "Oh Canada, so good at hockey" crap..First of all, this is the 21st century, not the middle ages, I just call us "a member of the Western world" or something....

My point is, the only reason people care about the Juniors is for some lame national pride thing (isn't pride a sin anyways?)...The only other reason I could see is the you wanna see the stars of tomorrow, today. But what's the point? I could watch the stars of today just as easy....The only reason you'd want to see future stars is so that when the become stars you could brag and say "I knew he was going to be good" ..Again a pride thing.....

If it's not for one of those idiotic reasons, the only reason I could see is if you're an NHL scout. If that's the case, that's cool.......

Maybe some fancy TSN executive will read this and realize, "ya, I should change sportscenter, and show NHL highlights first, since, you know, they are pros and most fans want to se the highest quality....But then again, if a TSN guy read this, I'd like them also to know that they have the WORST hockey coverage ever.

I'm American and I'm offended. I take time off of work to watch the WJC. Getting to see the likes of Zach Parise, Deion Phaneuf, etc. before they are NHL studs is just plain fantastic.

The thing about the WJ's that I love is that you are watching kids that are still playing for something. Not only for their country, but for their draft spot or to show the team that drafted them that they made the right call. Many players make or break their careers in the WJ. Think of guys like Forsberg who had 31 points in the one tourney, or Lindros totally dominating everything. What about Phaneuf rocking Ovechkin for 40 minutes making Ovie hit the guy and start playing angry.

It's hockey at it's purest form. Highly talent kids playing a game they love for something that is meaningful, not just a paycheck.

The World Juniors is the best hockey a guy can watch. If you don't like it, I would have to question your love of Hockey itself.

Wayne or Bobby?? How about both!!!

It's like you read my mind.

For these young players, their draft spot may depend on this tournament.

also 4478, these kids give up three weeks around christmas time, leaving their families behind in many cases, representing you and your country in the greatest sport around....what is wrong with "pride".....no, pride is not a sin....where would you conjure up that statement from.....is it a sin to feel pride when your italian soccer team wins the world cup....is it a sin to have pride "in the so called great american pastime"....(well after a steroid scandel or two, maybe not).....is it a sin when parents feel proud about what their children have accomplished in life.....c'mon.....is it a sin to be proud of your own graduation from a high ranking school in your province or state.....is it a sin to be proud of your '67 corvette.....it is not a sin to take pride in knowing a little indepth hockey knowledge about your junior reps.....these kids play with total heart and for absolutely no coin......they are quite happy to do so also....these are "virgin" hockey players who have not been soiled by money and agents yet.....they play for you, me and our country....it is not a sin to feel proud of that.....it is a sin to clobber someone with a hockey stick over the head.....it is a sin to jump an opponent from behind, drive his head into the ice and break three vertabrae, then change all your property and assets over, three weeks later in your wifes names and tell the world it was just a coincidence that she now owns everything just before a lawsuit is to unfold.....that is a sin.....it is a sin when 5 players from the same team total somewhere in the 60-70 games in total suspensions in one half season....that is a sin.....it is a sin when a professional coach is indicted for running a gambling ring and then is re-enstated a year later to continue coaching.....that is a sin.....when you have grown "heroes" getting juiced, exposed about it and lying to my face that they never touched it.....take a look at "the rockets" rookie card.....his behind and thighs grew to monstrous proportions very late in life.....yes, he was "thick" boned as a rookie, but check him out 20 years later.....you dont grow like that from running in the outfield.....check bonds out on his rookie card....i throw away chicken wings that have more meat on them than bonds had hisfirst two years in the league.....check his body (and his head) out now.....you dont grow like that without any chemicals helping out....and then lie to a federal inquiry and the paying public.....that is a sin......representing your country with passion and drive is not a sin.....at 17 and 18 years old, when they should be at home with their families, they are in a foreign land with a red maple leaf on the cover.....friggin' proud i am of our boys.....won their 20th straight WCJ game this morning.....20 in a row there, guest 4478.....and you know what.....i bet even after ranting about our boys like you did, you still took in at least one of the two games they have played so far.....and you couldn't bring yourself to feel any pride?????....and guest 4271, please accept my apologies with regard to the american comment....american hockey fans in the northern part of the US can be just as passionate as any canadian about hockey....sorry buddy.....

Maybe it's time to stop allowing anonymous guests to start topics with the sole purpose of starting arguments or creating polls such as "who will get ROY of the year? Crosby or Ovechkin...In all seriousness though, who has the bigger feet? Briere, Thornton, Koivu, Jagr or Sundin?

Yo gotta be the biggest "XXXXXXXXXXX" in the world not to be able to appreciate the awesomeness of the World Junior's ...If you played any hockey in your life (or should I say, had any kind of moderate hockey skills and didn't play house league every year until you realized you couldn't skate backwards and crossovers were hard and that you should take up syncronized swimming) you would understand why the World Juniors is so important. These kids give it their all...and all for their country not for a salary {MODERATOR EDIT - PLEASE BE POLITE}....not one guy takes a night...let alone a shift off! It's fast paced hard hitting hockey XXXXXXX and it's for 2 weeks and NHL runs until April!

Actually I don't know why I wrote this...you don't even deserve a response for such a stupid comment! XXXXX!

hey beans 15....i know we have to watch our language and all, but guest 2956 hit it on the head....maybe we can just eliminate the stupidity from the beginning and then you wont have to moderate every second comment.....moderate once at the beginning (topic choice) and that would eliminate name calling etc.....just read the forum topic for this....totally nonsense....almost done on purpose it seems to get replies that are of this nature.....nip it in the bud.....

Vanilla, you may think the post is ludicrous, but the guest perhaps did/does not. The point of this forum is to be able to freely speak your opinion about hockey. The Topic does nothing to personally attack or belittle any individual. The way I read it, the guest would prefer to watch Pro NHL highlights and feels that TSN does a poor job of covering hockey. However, the posts following became personal.

Calling people names and attacking them for their opinion is not something I think is right. People having the choice to voice their opinion, popular or not, is something I agree with.

This guest has as much of a right to dislike the World Juniors as you(and I for that matter) have the right to love them. However, it don't think anyone has the right to call someone down personally, attack them, and call them names for having a different opinion.

Topic choice is fine, name calling is not.

Usually I like any chance to harp on TSN, but obviously they are going to hype up the Juniors since, you know, they broadcast it!!! That's called marketing....
As for the tournament itself. I really liked it when I was younger, but I could really care less anymore, it's kind of annoying how much Canada dominates, just cause I wish there was a rivalry or something.

I have been watching the tournament a bit, and Hartsburg is a moron!!! Play Tavares more you idiot!!!!!! This guy is just as dominant as Sid was in the CHL. He scores 2 goals in his first game and only gets power play time?

Sugar Ray over Hasek any day!

If you don't like the WJC, you do not appreciate the game of hockey! These are kids that are playing their heart out for their country! To try and make their country proud! The pressure is insane! If they lose, the country will look down on them! I would rather watch them then the Leafs any day! These kids play with heart! not to mention, there is a lot of skill too! it's a glimpse of what the future of the NHL holds!
