Phaneuf is a terrible defenceman. He may score goals and give big hits but his defensive ability is pathetic and comical. If he wants 7mil then I am sure he will be with Jersey or the Rangers soon. My vote is for Mitchell |

for your information, Dion Phaneuf is a franchise defenceman and will be an up and coming Norris candidate in the near future so before you start flappin your trap, maybe consider teh skill and talent that Phaneuf possesses.

We will see your franchise player in Jersy next year since Suter will be the only one to sign him. Suter coached him with the Rebels.
Frnchise player in Cal is Iginla 7 mil, Kip 7 mil. Do the math if you can |

Eklund is reporting that NJ is already negotiating with Calgary for Phaneuf. Bad move for Calgary if you ask me.

Rediculous. He is still very young and prone to mistakes but you seem to think he is basically Marc Savard lined up on the blue line. Phaneuf is going to be an absolute MONSTER in all aspects of the game 5 years from now (and he'll still only be 27). |

Why lock the forum?? People have the right to disagree and ask questions do they not??
My opinion is that Phaneuf, today, it not a complete defensemen. He does make a number of poor defensive plays and is often out of position defensively.
Do I think that Phaneuf is a Norris type d-man today, not at all. However, he has shown improvement defensively since he started in the league. He has the tool and the head to be a great even amazing defensemen. Today?? Not so much. Great offensive d-man, but not a great d-man.
Mitchell, although a solid player, does not have the potential that Phaneuf has. I agree with the one poster who said that in 5 years Phaneuf will dominate. To think that he will only be 27 at that is scary.
Wayne or Bobby?? How about both!!! |

Phaneuf just trys to get the spot light. He does that by going out of position to nail someone and he just does dumb stuff although i still picked Phaneuf |

Phaneuf is clearly a great defenseman. He may go out of position on occasion but he is still young and learning. He will totaly dominate in a couple of years. |

A good topic but the list is very specific and does not have enough options. While Phaneuf is my choice anyways, Mitchell is not my runner up. To increase participation try and add a few more guys like Mike Komisarek (good Habs boy!) and others.
