Nice topic. Im not quite sure who is competing but i'll base it off general knowledge.
who do you think will win the 1.) Fastest Skater - Gaborik 2.) Hardest Shot - Phaneuf 3.) Elimintion Shootout - Ovechkin 4.) Obstacle Course Relay - Datsyuk 5.)Accuracy Shooting - Iginla and will the east or west win the skills competition with most points? - West
and who will win 1.) All-Star Game - West 2.)Young-Star Game - West
And don't call me biased because I watch the West more, I would pick the East but with Heatley, Crosby and Brodeur out that's a big loss. I call 'em as I see 'em.

who do you think will win the 1.) Fastest Skater - Gaborik or Niedermeyer. Gaborik is sick fast and Nieds won it before 2.) Hardest Shot - Chara it is all about leverage and at 6'9, he's got the most leverage there is. 3.) Elimintion Shootout - Horcoff (it will surprise people that the most simple moves will win the shootout) has the highest shoot out percentage of all the players in the all stars. Also, goalies will be studying moves by the big stars not guys like Horcoff. 4.) Obstacle Course Relay - Ovie or Kovalchuk, there first three strides are insane though Alfie will be close 5.)Accuracy Shooting - Again another defencemen with Lidstrom but Alfie and Ribeiro will compete.

All of the above predictions, minus the EAST - WEST ones, depend on who competes. If I knew the players actually competing in those catagories, it'd be a lot more accurate. So I will pick only from those in the all-star game, out of all players who may not even compete in the catagory.

1.) Fastest Skater: Marian Gaborick( Niedermayer isnt in the competition is he? and he is getting to old) 2.) Hardest Shot: phaneuf (this year it is onetimers and he definitly can tee up the on timers) 3.) Shootout: Ovechkin (the shootout is like the slam dunk comp:they are rated by their moves so that takes out horcoff) 4.)Obsatcle Course Relay: Kovalchuk (insanly fast and crazy hands) 5.)Accuracy: Iginla (most accurate quick snap shot in league) Winner of the skills comp is a tough one" gotta go with the west
and who will win? 1.) All-star game: close but like guest 8815 said having crosby, broduer, and heatly out will be the difference so i give the win to WEST 2.)Young Star game: WEST, with Kane, Toews, Cogliano, and Gagner how could you bet against them

I'm pretty sure Kovalchuk beat horcoff in the 1 on 1... seems like a scam.
and how was campbell faster than kovalchuk/St Louis??? |

Kaberle... 4/4! 3/4 & 1/1.
I never realized he had such good accuracy.
Not too shabby. lol
Chara! 103.1 :D bahaha.
--
Well, the breakaway challenge was ah.. not so good. lol. Kovulchuk tryed the Crosby move, from his knees! haha. ;)
Not a lot of creativity. I think they almost seemed nervous to try it, and fail at it.
Atleast Getzlaf and Ovechkin tryed. I think it answers some of the "ovechkin has no heart", also. He just loves the game. You can tell. Always smiling.
So, East won as I predicted. :D
Sorry for the sloppy post, just kept adding as it happened. ;p Was a decent all star skills comp. Hopefully they get creative in the all-star game. I kind of would like the all star game to be somewhat like the young stars. Creates more open space for nice passes and moves. But it's too short.
Perhaps 4-4, 3 - 15 minute periods. |

Wow that was disappointing! Did anyone tell those guys that it was a judged competition and they were supposed to try original moves?
It was hyped up all week and there were only a few a guys who tried anything and it looked like it was the first time they had tried the move.
They should have let the young guns do that competition. They probably would have tried something original. |

And what was UP with Datsyuk? He could have blown them away on a rematch of Vokoun vs. Datsyuk. All in all, I think that they needed to have a little more fun with it as Ovie did. You all saw that missing tooth smile!
Habs get number 25 this year
When crosby and Ovie came out. I had thought the media was hyping these guys up just a tad too much. Then after watching them play, and see their demeanors and personalities come more to the forefront, I have come to the conclusion that that missing-tooth-smile should be the "face of the NHL". How can anyone NOT like the guy? He just shows a general love for the game and it is written all over his face. Had the media not wanted a north american to carry the NHL flag they could have had a marketing bonanza with Ovie. At least they should have marketed him the same as crosby. |

I hope some of you realise that the judged shoot-out competition is not liked by many players, and they put in minimal effort as a result. Well, that's my guess/take on it.
I've already ranted against this travesty, so I'll leave it at that.
