Poll Question:
Was the new Breakaway Challenge a success in the 2008 NHL Super Skills Competition?

It was a complete bust, players did not take chances, did not live up to the hype, did not seem to know why they were there, and let down the fans. St. Louis, that means you man!
And also, goalies should not be allowed outside the blue paint, it was ridiculous. No room to pull a move.

I agree with Alex. Like Kovalchuk went on his knees and then shot it like it was his firts puck he shot. St.louis did a dumb move and I think that they shouldn't give them a high score if they don't score. |

Personally, I wanted innovation over anything. I would be happy with a bunch of Datsyuk-like moves, or Forsberg's. Or Gaborik, I liked the blinding the goalie idea... Getzlaf was also good, and I REALLY wanted to see St. Louis's, what a let down. BOO
I really did not want to see it entirely lacrosse style, though that would still have beaten the turnout that we got.

I think they should have removed the goalies altogether! This would have opened up so many possibilities for the players. But I guess the event is still in it's infancy and will evolve over time (if they decide to keep it)...That poke-check by the goalie (was it Legacy?) on St.Louis was totally uncalled for. Let the guy finish his move. What a douche-bag!
Also, they should have had more players doing the "slam dunk". To give the fans a little more variety of skills. |

My guess is there were few players who actually wanted to participate in this "skill" competition. You could see how uncomfortable Datsyuk was. Most hockey players don't like to show off. Sadly with each new year that passes the younger set's mentality changes and soon we'll have NBA attitudes all over the place I'm sure.

NABOKOV SHOULD NOT HAVE POKE CHECKED ST LOUIS he was the only one who had actually practiced something for the shootout challenge, and nabokov ruined it, they should consider either getting rid of the goalie, or having them remain in the crease |
