Which team will take the eastern conference this year? (2007/2008)

Although teams such as NJ are quickly approaching, I do believe Ottawa will end in first in the East.
With the recent injury plague in Ottawa they have not been winning as many games, though the top three are healthy now... I believe it will take another week or so for the Sens to get back on track.

I don't know Irv, I'm starting to second guess the power house that was the Senators.. They don't show consistency like others, and when they get on a bit of a slide, you see glimpses of last year's Stanley Cup Final break down. I don't have them winning the cup.
As for the conference, it should be a tooth and nail battle to the end. My heart says Habs, my brain says Sens.
I'll go with ma boys Les Canadiens

Although since I was a young lad, (not saying I am that old now,) I grew up around Habs fans. I still have feelings for them, but I can't pick the Canadiens to win the Conference. Les Canadiens de Montreal are playing consistent hockey and have all season, but I just can't take them for the fact that they do not have any big players. I don't mean size wise, I mean a player that in a clutch situation, can carry the team. One injury, of one of their top players could possibly plague the entire team. Mainly, their power play. And without the PP, I don't think MTL are where they are now.
If they stay healthy, they may have a chance. But they just do not have that key firepower, in my opinion.

I don't know, I still like Ottawa. They are the first team I have seen in years that remind me of old school offensive hockey. Sure, they might lose the odd game they shouldn't, but they absolutely step on people offensively. The big line is the first one since maybe Pittsburgh in the early 90's with Lemieux, Recchi, and Jagr that look like they will score every time they are on the ice. Ottawa has the #1 goals for in the league. The Big 3 alone, have more points than the 6 top point getters for the Islanders or Columbus. That is sick! If Heatley gets on his horse a bit after a separated shoulder, they might be the first team to have 3 100 point players since Pittsburgh did that in 95-96 with Lemieux, Jagr, and Francis.
I just don't see anyone that can skate with them offensively. And although their defense has been a little unstable as of late, I still think they are as deep 1-6 as anyone in the league. That includes Anaheim and Detroit.
Above this, I think adding Stillman and Commodore is a huge piece in the dressing room. Stillman has been not only on 2 of the past 3 Stanley Cup winners, but he was a big part of the leadership of those teams. With Stillman and Commodore, they have the players that have actually won the Blue Ribbon at the County Fair.
The only clink in the armour of the Sens is in the Blue Ice. All they need is one responsible goalie. Right now, they have 2 uncertain goalies. If Murray can move one of them out at the deadline, I think they will be far better off.

A healthy Ottawa team is pretty hard to bet against. Give the new acquisitions in Stillman and Commodore a few more games to find their groove and all will be well in the nations capital. Of course, I can't count out New Jersey as the dark horse.

I think goaltending will determine who finishes first.
Ottawa's goaltending situation is a train wreck.
If I had to put money on it, I'd have to go with the Devils.

Dead on. Some nights they dont know who's coming and who's going, some nights their goalie's cant save a beach ball, and some nights the story is bigger off the ice than on the ice.
