For all their amazing moves, I am going to have to bash my Habitants over here for picking Wickenheiser. Mind you, he had the credentials. But, firstly, they sunbbed the hometown hero, and secondly, Doug went NOWHERE, not just mediocre, nowhere, and thirdly, they could have made the draft choice with farm animals up their asses and around the corner and made a better selection, when you look at the pool of talent they missed out on.
Mind you, had I been them I don't know what would have stopped me from picking Dougie, I am merely talking with the luxury of hindsight.

Two questions:
1) Alex - why did you put Rick Green on this list? The guy was a very solid stay at home defenceman. He played his role very well (just like an offensive player who plays his role very well). And though there were some good players that could have been taken in his place, the difference between him and them isn't nearly as drastic as some of the other players on your list.
2) Guy who voted for Rick Green - why did you vote for Rick Green...

Yep...that was only one of the many names I have seen listed so far that don't even belong on the list, or are worthy of being mentioned.
What about Lawton?? Stefan definitely...Daigle and Joly deserve mention too, for sure. But none of the others mentioned so far. Wickenheiser, maybe. |

Had to go with Daigle.
For me, "worst pick" has a lot to do with the hype associated with that player, and I can't think of a player more over-hyped than Daigle. Stefan had some fanfare, but Daigle was supposed to be "the Next One" - in fact, I remember him getting just as much cred as, say, Lindros when he was entering the NHL.
Reminds me of a helium-filled balloon thay springs a leak . . . . pffffffft!
But he did get to bone Carol Alt, if my memory serves correct . . .

I'm gonna go for a totally off the wall pick here and say Rejean Houle in 1969.
Why?
Not for his performance as a player, but for the fact that Montreal later ended up stuck with him as a GM.
He engineered the trades that lost the Habs Roy, Damphousse, Recchi, and Turgeon.
He was also key in bringing such star talent as Marcel Hossa to Montreal.
If the Habs were going to draft a player/GM in 1969 why not Bobby Clarke?
Like I said, not a conventional answer, but Daigle didn't single handedly kill the Senators for 5 years the way Houle killed the Habs.
Also, why Rick Green?

Patrik Stefan, big time to me. Alexandre Daigle was just an upset really, any team would have picked him. He seemed promising at the time. Patrik Stefan was just a weird pick. Alex Daigle wasn't stupid at the time. Although the 1999 NHL Entry Draft didn't have much talent anyways Stefan still got picked over the Sedin's and Martin Havlat |

I say its gotta be Dougie, consediering the habs could have had Savard.
Slozo, you're getting your annoying Sens mixed up. It was actually Yashin that got to bone Alt, and I believe they are still together. |

When you look at the 99 draft. Other then the Sedins there wasn't much else. Havlat was a honourable mention in the first round and he was drafted 26th. |
