I am sick and tired about hearing what Sid's favorite movie is and about his relationship with Mario over real hockey news!!!! I hate Crosby through the media. Plus, he has a quiet arrogance to him (just like Wayne and Mario did) but still has not done enough to prove that he is more than elite today. I totally agree that he is one of the best players in the league today, but he is still not even close to the best of all time. Yet, he seems to act like it. Quiet arrogance?? Every night Sid gets a post game interview, what does he do?? He bring a second or third liner up there with him to get some of the spotlight, aka tyler kennedy last week. I think that is commendable and he does it nearly everytime he is up there. You wanna talk about arrogance?? how about ovechkin in his rookie season after being asked who is the best player in the game right now? and he replied "me"? THAT IS ARROGANCE! and when ovechkin scored an empty net goal against Tampa he did a victory lap at top speed screaming like he just scored the goal of the decade THAT IS ARROGANCE! Dont hate crosby for being a media super story! blame the fact that since he was 8 yrs old he has been re writting record books in a country that breeds hockey superstars and he just happened to be the best in a long while
Actually, I know exactly what Beans is talking about with his "quiet arrogance" comment. I think he hit the nail on the head with that. It almost seems as if Crosby has a bit of a sense of entitlement. I'm not saying that his being told he is great for his whole life isn't somewhat responsible for that, but it just doesn't usually come off very well. He has a LONG way to go before he should even be mentioned in the same breath as Gretzky, Orr etc. Right now, he is FAR from being one of the best ever.
But the bottom line is this: In Sid's position, he is a lightening rod. He is going to have those who love him, those who hate him and those who couldn't give a damn. Thats life. Get over it.
With regards to Ovechkin, I don't think that was arrogance, I think it was over-exuberance. They guy just has an unbelievable love for the game. Somebody probably sat him down and had a little chat with him to tone it down a bit, because I don't recall hearing Ovechkin doing anything like that for a while. |

Myself...not a big Crosby fan! He may be a very good hockey player but there is a difference between a "good" player and a "great" player. The biggest difference is respect for the game!! You can score as many points in a season as needed to grab you the scoring title. But when a stick sways 6 inches away from your face and you look like you have just been shot....you skate past the opposing team after you lose game one and slash one of the other players (slash being used lightly because it was more of a tap...but still not very classy). There is so much more to being a super star in the NHL than just scoring goals. Until Crosby gets older and understands that you cant whine every time you think you have been wronged. Until he realizes that every time he makes that childish fake injury move in a game.....he will never have the respect of anyone....especially his peers. I dont hate him...i think he is still a kid that is learning to play with adults. But until he becomes Steve Yzerman classy...he gets no respect from me! |

Easily one of the best posts I've seen for any topic. Well said.
