Poll Question:
How will the hiring of Quinn & Renney affect the Oil?

They still need to make some changes if not a lot of changes in the line up before they can be a true Cup contender but this will certainly not hurt the team in any way and I do see the playoffs in their next campaign.

They currently have 10-12 million to sign a goalie and 1-2 top forwards, not including the young talent trade bait they have to build a winner here. I'd say this could be a good year for Edmonton fans. They have been waiting for this group to turn into pro hockey players for years now. Now they have a coaching staff to develop a winner here. I think Lowe is in deep trouble though. He has 2 on his staff who can do his job. |

Look for them to make a move involving a somewhat big name player. They have alot of trade bait. Probably trade a couple prospects for a forward that has one or two years left on his contract. Use the extra cap space to sign a goalie.

I don't know about that. How could two genuine head coaches make them worse. The Oilers are not done making noise yet. I have a feeling we are going to be hearing about a blockbuster trade deal or a free agent player pick up this summer. With those two coaches the Oilers are a lot more attractive to players who want to play for either Quinn or Renney.

Quinn will help the Oilers. Possibly win a cup. I remember his first year as the Maple Leafs coach he took a team that is worse off then they are right now with guys like Derek King, Kris King, Igor Korolev, Mike Johnson, Garry Valk, Sylvain Cote, Alexander Karpovtsev, Alyn McCauley, Tie Domi, Todd Warriner, Danny Markov, Yannick Tremblay, Darby Hendrickson a team that normally wouldn't have even been thought to have a chance to make the playoffs and led them all the way to the Conference finals... 7 years as the Leafs coach 6 years making the playoffs. final year as Leafs coach 2005-06 Won 41 loss 33 and 8 overtime loss 90 Points but just didn't make the playoffs so they fired him and sign Paul Maurice, huge mistake they should have kept Pat Quinn... Pat Quinn is a winning coach 657 Wins, 481 losses, 154 Ties, and 26 overtime losses that is excellent coaching.. Best thing Edmonton could have done was sign Pat Quinn... Now watch them make the playoffs |

Firing Maurice was the worst thing the Leafs did, see what he did to the canes this year you chirp Toskala and praise your offence yet Wilson is an offensive coach he doesn't friggin coach defensived enough to ever win anything. As for Quinn im glad hes head and not renney, renney=Mact 2.0 but as long as this team can actually play a solid 60 minute game consistently there no limits to what they can accomplish under a coach who will lets the kids play there game not dump and half chase and try to turn Hemsky into a grinder. |

I agree with you on the Renney = Mac T, they do coach the same game and heck they even kind of look the same. I do however have to say that Toronto picking up Wilson was a great move. Yes he does coach an offensive style but that is why we have Rob Zettler as well. Rob played defense for 15 seasons in the NHL so it is not like they don't have a defensive coach as well. Paul Maurice = non issue, I didn't lose any sleep when he was fired, he had his chance. Quinn is the best thing to happen to the Oil recently, I honestly can't wait until October.

uhmmm....im not sure what ron wilson you guys have watched, but wilson is known for being disgustingly defensive minded. You wouldnt know it with the leafs last year, but his teams in Anaheim, Washington and San Jose trapped to death.
His Sj team was #1 on the Pk
There is no "I" in team, but there is an "M" and an "E". |

The important thing here is that Pat Quinn is a winning coach. He has had mostly success everywhere he has coached. I think the main factor in this decision was how he coached the world juniors this past year. He handled the youngsters very well, which was a knock on him that he was to old to relate to the kids. I think this is a positive for the Oil. They are a young team and Quinn is still a good coach. |
