i think that the leafs should draft Matt Duchene. His strong skating and playmaking is what the leafs really need

Matt Duchene, or Evander Kane...

Ya they have to move up to the third pick, But Burk wants the # 1 anyway, but he is going to use it to get Tavares. |

If it was my choice I would go with Tavares of course (104 pts last year) but I highly doubt Burke is going to be able to move up from 7 to 1. It is plausible Burke has a chance at Brayden Schenn or Evander Kane though. Brayden is a great play-maker and can score too (70GP, 32G, 56A, 88Pts. last year) he also has some size and grit that the Leafs need in the forward position (remember his bros Luke smashing guys around last year, most hits on the team last year) plus I am always partial to fellow Saskabushers. I just don't know how badly the bros want to play together. Evander is going to be a force one day in the league I'm sure. His numbers were very good last year too (61GP, 48G, 48A, 96Pts.). Both these guys also won the Jim Piggott Memorial Trophy (WHL rookie of the year). Evander has also won a Memorial cup something Tavares never did (I wish he would have he would even be more complete, but 2 golds doesn't hurt). This draft is pretty deep and if Burke has a chance at any of the guys in the top 5 he should be happy.

Going by this site http://www.mynhldraft.com/NHL-Mock-Draft/ , it just might be Magnus Svensson-Paajarvis, a gifted scorer who might blossom into a Naslund-type player.
That is, if the Leafs pick 7th, where they are now.
Burke has publicly stated however that he plans to trade up and will try as hard as possible to do so, and it may just happen "on the floor" (the day of the draft) as it has for him the other two times he was able to swing it. My guess is that he just might pull it off.
So, going by that logic, what is the highest draft number he could get? Well, going by rumour and innuendo and using my logic for what each team needs, I can't see the Isles parting with Tavares - they need the scoring, need a superstar to market, etc. Will the Lightning be willing to part with Hedman? I doubt it . . . not with Boyle gone and no stud defenceman to take his place.
Now we are down to . . . Colorado, and potentially Duchene - a sniping superstar to be. Well, now I see possibilities, as Colorado is full up with snipers, and wouldn't mind trading to down to still get a very good defensive prospect with Toronto's 7th while I think they might get a solid defenceman in the deal from the Leafs (Kaberle).
So, best as I can see, the top player that I think Toronto might get in the draft is Matt Duchene or Braydon Schenn, whichever they rate higher.
I'll say Braydon Schenn. He is everything Burke wants, plus there is the marketing side to it of having two potential young stars that are brothers on the team.

I think the leafs should trade kaberle, and their 7th pick for lecavalier. If the lightning r looking to dump his salary leafs have the money to take him and his large cap hit and in return tampa gets a solid puck moving defencemen which they r looking for (plus kaberle isn't making that much for his calibre offensive defencemen) and they also get another top 10 pick to rebuild. The leafs get their next captain and heart and soul (most importantly someone who can play hockey unlike most of the screw ups we have on the team). What do u think? |

I think lecavalier would look great in a leafs uniform and if this does happen i think we can make the playoffs next season.
Line 1: Blake-Lecavalier-Tlusty Line 2: Hagman-Grabovski-Kulemin Line 3: Poni-Bozak-Stempniak Line 4: Mitchell-Stajan-Mayers
D1: White-Schenn D2: Finger-Kubina D3: Van Ryn-Oreskovic
G:Toskala-Gustavsson(assuming they sign him) |

Thats a terrible line up....you couldnt make the playoffs with Kaberle and Sundin, so why would you be able to make them with Vinny Lecav.... |

IF the leafs sign havlat and trade their 7th pick and kaberle for lecavalier, then sign bouwmeester! The leafs will be amazing if they do this.

I really don't think the leafs will be able to move up in the draft none of the teams would want to let go of their pick unless Burke did something really dumb.

There is no way in hell you can get Vinny for that cheap quit dreaming leaf fan and what makes you think JBO wants to go leafs when he said play in his hometown and Havlat is injury prone and will cost alot either way the risk outweighs the reward. slow down and rebuild and stop with this 1 year rebuild sign people to dumb contracts that kills you down the road. |

Let's stay on topic here: this is not about the Leafs potential starting day line-up, it's about whether Matt Duchene should be drafted by the Leafs, and other drafting options.
