Poll Question:
With the draft over and the Leafs boasting about their 7th overall pick. How will Nazam Kadri do next year production wise?

Kadri will crack the opening day roster. He'll be a nice surprise for Leafs Nation, and the NHL for that matter.
I'm predicting a solid season. He'll tally around 70 points.

Kadri will not make the big squad next year. Firstly, because he's still young and develping. Secondly, he's small. And that is a hugely important in the NHL today. IF the Leafs are a smart organization, they will ensure that Kadri matures both physically and mentally before they drop him into the NHL world. With all due repect, a solid hit from just about any NHL defensemen has a likelihood of putting this kid on the DL. The NHL game is significantly bigger and faster than the junior game. The average NHL player is better than the top 1% of junior players. 167 lbs in the NHL is more than on the small size. Let's put this into perspective, there were 885 skaters(non-goalie) who played in at least 1 NHL game in the 08/09 season. Do you know how many weighed less than 170 lbs??? 4. That's right, 4 total. Kadri needs two things to hit the NHL. Time and Beef. He needs to pack on 20+ lbs of groceries to have a reasonable shot at an NHL career.
And 70 points?? Seriously, I can appreciate being a fan and voting a little bit with your heart, but please. Kadri is not anywhere near the player size or skill wise as Stamkos and he didn't even have 50 points as a rookie. With all due respect, Kadri is a solid pick for the Leafs, but it's for the future. He won't be in the line up next year, and I would think his career highs will be in the 70-80 point range. As a rookie, not a chance.
Here is a little exerpt from a report in the Globe and Mail. Even Burke says it's going to be 3-4 years before you see the positive impacts of this draft.
Burke fortified his organization at the draft with size and toughness, from third-rounder Plymouth Whalers enforcer Jamie Devane (6 foot 4, 225 pounds) to seventh-rounder Barron Smith, a defenceman with the Peterborough Petes and son of former NHLer Steve Smith. "I don't think all these guys will make us bigger immediately," Burke said. "Virtually all these guys, including our first pick [Nazem Kadri], are going to need some time and some of them are downright raw. They are going to take three or four years down the line." |

There is very little chance he will make the team this year.
....And 70 points?? That is crazy! Since 2000-2001 season there are only 5 Players to tally more than 70 points in their rookie season. Only 2 of them (Patrick Kane & Sidney Crosby) actually played their rookie season on their draft year. Statsny & Ovechkin had to wait 1 season, while Malkin waited 2. And all of those players, except Statsny, Were drafted either first or second overall. |

Agree totally with Beans. I would be surprised if he made the team. But then again we are talking about TO, canadas worst team by far.

Kadri is 6'0" not bad, very fast and very skilled with the puck. But he only weighs in at 167 lbs at the moment... from now until October he will need to add some pounds which is a lot of time adding is the easy part and he's in very good shape... Kadri will make the team and he will probably reach about 70-80 points this season...
Kenny Ryan, Eric Knodel, Jesse Blacker, Jerry D'Amigo will probably play as well ...And the LEAFS Win the CUP |

WOW! You Leaf fans (plural cuz i'm including hanley's prediction above as well) have finally driven me to actually sign up on here. "Kadri will make the team and he will probably reach about 70-80 points this season..."? WTF? Without repeating the facts above from Lyall, think about what you're saying! 70 points this past season would have seen him squeezing into the top 40 for the entire league, tied with Patrick Kane and Derek Roy, while outscoring the likes of Vinny Lecavalier, Jonathan Toews and Anze Kopitar to name a few! As a rookie on the Leafs? I mean, the Leafs top scorer didn't even crack 70! You're either joking, or you're expecting quite a turnaround season for the Leafs. Or, better yet, you're prob speaking/typing with your heart a little too much. Best of luck with that prediction......BTW, if you're going in any hockey pools with that thinking and need another entry, sign me up |

These are the glasses leafs fans have been wearing for the last 40+ years and counting. What's that smell in Toronto during the strike? Roses baby that's the smell of roses. |

Just because a couple of Leafs fans post somewhat ridiculous replies, does not mean they speak for everyone.
My prediction would be 6 games late in the season perhaps, and he might get a couple of assists and a goal . . . that's if the Leafs are out of the playoff picture by that time (quite possible). If the Leafs are still fighting to stay in or grab a playoff spot, I say he gets no games.

Thank you Slozo for your realistic comments, and my apologies for using the team "Leafs fans" and grouping you all together. Don't get me wrong, while not a Leafs supporter, i do not "hate" any fans, but like others, get frustrated with ridiculous comments like those above! Predictions and wishes/dreams seem to get confused by some. |

If we were talking about a 6'0 foot player at 180, he might make the team. 13 pounds is not that much weight unless its all muscle. Adding 10% of pure muscle is hard, damn hard. 25-30 pounds to fill him out to 190-195 if possible, but if you want a roundly shaped hockey player, who some consider very talented to play for the leafs this year, mail him some recipies.
70 point's aint gonna happen. Mid season call up 20-30 points in 45-50 games. Toronto needs forwards badly. |

Correction in my mind. Toronto needs everything, badly.

this will be a turn around season for the Leafs, I can feel it they will make the playoffs as long as Toskala isn't there number 1

My prediction is Kadri has good camp, but he is sent back to London to spend the year under the guidance of the Hunters. The Hunters have been extremely successful of getting young players to the NHL. Fritche, Perry, Kane, Gagner, Bolland. Kadri is very much in the same category as those players. Kane is more offensively talented though was ready to play on a young Hawks club. I think the Leafs management have some moves in mind and Kadri is not likely in the immediate plans. He is just not ready yet. However, he may start the year but be sent back to junior after 10 games if he has an outstanding camp. Most likely won't see NHL action this year. |

As a Leafs fan.
I'm being realistic and say Kadri wont make the team. Maybe a late call up.
I don't even think he will make the team in 2010. It will take time with this guy. And hopefully he'll be good and be able to score 70 to 80 points in his prime.
Hopefully he's another Bobby Ryan, when everybody starts forgetting the guy he enters the league with a bang. |

im a diehard leafs fan and I cant beleive im hearing this from fellow brethren. Kadri will probably play anohter year in London, not the leafs... he'll be lucky to play a full season for the Marlies this year.
i turned my brain off a year ago and I dont plan on turning it on again for another 2 years. its going to be a long time before the Burke tree bears any fruit.
There is no "I" in team, but there is an "M" and an "E". |

I have heard that he will stay back with the juniors, and I`m almost certain he will.If he goes to the NHL I would be surprised. But anyways if he does go to the I think he will score up to 50-60 points.
