Poll Question:
Assuming Crosby Ovechkin and Malkin go 1,2,3 in your draft who is your fourth overall pick? With the pool format 1 pt. per goal and 1 pt. for an assist.

Thornton. I expect 100 points from him now that he plays with Heatley.
In a recent pool I was picking 6 and I got Thornton. I was pretty happy about it. |

i'd b pretty happy too if i got thornton 6th leafs81. I don't see how thornton shouldn't regain his 100 point form again. Heatley should also score 50 goals this year as well. the next three picks after ovechkin malkin and crosby IMO are: 4.thornton 5.datsyuk 6.heatley I also would never forget about parise or iginla. both could very easily b 100 point guys. |

really 2nd overall. that's interesting. I guess u never know. I think richards could very easily be top 10 in scoring. Philidelphia is a very good team with lot's of depth. Just look at who's on their powerplay. I still wouldn't pick richards over any of the big 3, but that's just me. |

I can't believe no one has mentioned Getzlaf? He was 4th or 5th in two of my pools. While he's not off to a super fast start, he is generally considered to be on one of the top lines in the league and a potential 100 pt guy! I got Thornton 7th as well in one of my pools and i got Crosby with the 3rd pick and was very close to taking Thornton there. He's just so durable and usually puts up 95+ points it seemed like the safe bet. However, i took Sid.....

Yup Getzlaf should definetly be on that list. So does Backstrom. They are both 100 points material. |

With only a point for goals as well, there are a few players that I would lump in together as being potential 100 pointers. I am not sure why you'd have Zetterberg and Lecavalier on this list before Getzlaf and Backstrom, but here would be my order:
4th pick: Thornton, Backstrom, Datsyuk or Getzlaf. I guess if I had to choose, I'd take Thornton 4th, he's a former 100 point man and on a great team with great linemates, and still going strong. Then I'd flip a coin for Datsyuk and Backstrom, and then Getzlaf.
For 8th on down: Kovalchuk Spezza Heatley Parise Iginla

In standard Yahoo leagues I've seen any combination of Parise, Getzlaf or Kovulchuk this year. Getzlaf probably gives you the most rounded option with good production in G,A,Pts,pim and +/-. Kovulchuk ensures you won't have to worry about getting goals for another few rounds and Parise takes care of goals and +/-. |

Luongo was our 2nd overall pick, Crosby was 4th. But for this poll I'd vote Thornton.
(I was first overall and took Ovie) |

Slozo....i hope yer right about Spezza. He's off to a rough start and snagged him with my second pick, 22nd overall.
For me, the fourth pick was Thornton for sure, then Getzlaf and from there: Datsyuk Backstrom Kovalchuk Heatley
guest 4134... Luongo went first overall in a pool i was in last year. This year, we changed shutout values so as to make sure the goalies weren't top picks. This year, 2pts for win and 2 more for a shutout. Yeah, a couple goalies went late first round but not the top 5 or 6. |

Alex how many guys are in this pool you are talking about? I cant imagine picking a goalie till the 4th or 5th round in any draft. If you got a 10 person pool lets say theyre is no need you could wait till the last round and still get a gem. If you got 15+ guys then yah maybe its worth a late first round or early 2nd round pick. |

Top tier goalies should almost always go in the first two rounds in any standard pool. If you're waiting until the 4th or 5th round I hope you're comfortable with #1 combo of Dan Ellis and Critobel Huet. |

Our draft requires you to have one goalie and ONLY one goalie. I don't like the rule but did take advantage of it last year where i noticed 12 out of the 13 guys picking had taken one early. Rather than panick, i noticed 2 or 3 decent ones still remaining and used my final pick to select Cam Ward who, for some reason, went unnoticed by the others. I'm guessing that since he was coming off just 30 wins the year prior and playing for a Hurricanes team which wasn't expected to be all that great that guys went elsewhere for their goalies? I do remember Luongo going early (so's were worth 3 that year) and then a ripple effect happened as everyone else panicked and picked their goalies.
This year, i waited and let others pick the goalies early yet again, but did jump in earlier than the last time. I picked up Ward in the 8th round and considering the guys selected near him, he should outperform the most of them. There's 13 teams in this draft again and as i said before, some goalies did go late round 1 and early round 2. The first year we did goalies, the guy running the pool made them worth 2 for wins and 5 for shutouts. It was a joke and more of a lottery to see who got the best goalie. When you're only picking one per team, which i don't agree with, there's no balancing it out by picking 1-13 then 13-1. Makes the lottery thing a little unfair. Same guy put in a rule this year where you get a bonus point for a guy scoring a shootout winning goal, another thing i think is bogus. There's no skill really involved in picking that so why bother? Maybe leave it as a tie-breaker or something but not as bonus points. Anyway, it's just a bunch of buddies and it's only $30 each, not one of the pools i take very seriously, therefore i don't bother complaining..... |
