Well,
I realize that the Ottawa Senators do not normally fair the best in the playoffs. But, when you look at last year tying for 8th overall in the NHL prior to the playoffs. You then take in account, they made it to the SC Finals. We know they can make it that far.
They have now improved the playing of their team, they are off to a great start even with the recent losses. BUT!
We do know they are going to make the playoffs this year, unless something drastic happens. And I feel strongly, they will repeat what they have done last year, by making it to the SC Finals again this season, and perhaps, with their top offensive line performing well, can take it home this year.
Ottawa Senators, 2008 Stanley Cup Champs. :D

Those are some bizzare options...why would I NOW think Atlanta is going to win the Cup? They are not even in the playoffs and will not make them.
How about the the team with the most points in the league, apparently they are an obscure team now
Detroit will win the Cup or in other words "Other" |

Let it be said. There are 9 games between first and last in the NHL.
That being said...
East: Ottawa: Not consistent as of late, but I still have them as my champs. New York Rangers: No way. You can't take a bunch of free agents and make yourself a cup team in one year. Carolina Hurricanes: I like their chances. I think last season was just a bunch of bad luck. Piladelphia Flyers: Look what I wrote about NYR Montreal Canadiens: Most underated team. I'd like to think they have what it takes. Boston Bruins: I like their chances. New Jersey Devils: Without Scott Stevens or Niedermayer I they can't do it. New York Islanders: You can't win a cup without a single superstar. Toronto Maple Leafs: They'd get sued for giving every other person in Toronto a heart attack. Buffalo Sabres: Definition of sleeper pick. Florida Panthers: Nope nope nope. Atlanta Thrashers: Hossa and Kovalchuk don't care one way or another. You can't win like that. Pittsburgh Penguins: If they make the playoffs, watch out. Tampa Bay Lightning: Inconsistent throughout. Washington Capitals: I'll eat my hat.

West:
Detroit: My number two. They are far more consitent than the Senators, especially come post season and especially this year. Dallas: No. Vancouver: Maybe. St. Louis: Talk about a Cinderella story. Minnesota: Not enough depth. Chicago: You can't have boys barely shaving winning it all for you. Colorado: I can see it. Nashville: No. San Jose: Wake up! Columbus: Only team never in the playoffs will stay that way. Anaheim: I don't think they can go ALL the way without Selanne / Neidermayer, but a good run is in store for them if they make the playoffs. Calgary: What went wrong? Pick things up and you have a playoff team. Edmonton: The Toronto Maple Leafs of the west. Phoenix: Bryzgalov ain't getting back-to-back rings. L.A. Kings: Hollywood is gonna keep the attention for the time being

Just wondering Alex, how big is your hat?
What superstar were you refering to on the Islanders? Miroslav Satan?
Would you actually consider picking Buffalo?

I'm saying NYI has no superstars.
Buffallo? Personally, they lack leadership. No one knows what they're sposed to be doing.
Calgary is essentially the same team they've always been . Just playing sloppy. They'll overcome it.

The Flames aren't playing that badly. Their coach even admitted yesterday that in order to win, they have to do something about the goaltending.

So it's settled, it'll be Atlanta vs. Edmonton in the finals?
The only finals they're going to be playing in is the on to decide which team is the worst in the NHL.

Ya really Guest4912. You serious?
Edmonton won't win on a team with 200% heart and 50% skill. And Atlanta won't win on a team that relies on the two most potent, yet selfish, players in the league.

guest hkalirah and ALEX, you posted two of the most stupid replies i have ever seen.
200% heart, 50% skill? are you f***ing serious?
i agree on 200% heart, but look at their skilll! hemsky, gagner, cogliano, horcoff, pitkanen, garon- these guys are the future of the game and they are awesome. for you to say 50% skill drove me over the top, that is such a bunch of bulls***!!!!!!!
look at gagner's outstanding shootout moves, his vision, and his puckhandling. same for hemsky. look at andrew cogliano's breakaway speed and amazing skill that helped propel canada to a third consecutive world junior championship last year!!! pitkanen is a stud on defense and could be a future kaberle!!!
look, i know these teams will not make the finals and i did not make that post, but your comments are so stupid, ridiculous and unfounded that you had to be put in your place. get off your high horse, your habs arent great either!!!
and hkalirah, good for you!! you cheer for a great team, one of the best in the league, of the past 10 years, and of all time. you may be a loyal fan, or something else (frontrunner), but your comments were unnecessary.
look at fact before you open your gigantic snouts!!!! |

Okay, maybe I did overdo it a little with the battle of the worst teams remark, however I am standing my ground. These teams are not good, and both will miss the playoffs.
Edmonton has potential to be good in a few years, you’re right. Gagner and Cogliano are the future of this team.
Horcoff, Torres, and Hemsky are too inconsistent. Pisani showed up in the playoffs of two years ago, but other than that what has he done? Rolston was a product of the system in Minnesota, he’s just like Chris Osgoode. His stats are a credit to the defence infront of him.
I like Pitkanen and Souray, but they’re going to need a lot more than that to go anywhere this year.
They way overpaid for Penner. I realize that that’s what Kevin Lowe needed to do in order to get someone to sign in Edmonton, however he may have screwed his team over in the years to come when there are better players available, but he may not have the cap room to get them.
Look at their stats from last year. Edmonton missed the playoffs with 71 points, the majority of these points were from before the Ryan Smyth trade. Since then they really haven’t improved their team much up front.
As for Atlanta, other than Hossa, Kovalchuk, and to some extent Kozlov, they’ve got a real lack of scoring. Tobias Enstrom is having a good rookie year, and he’s someone to keep an eye on. Other than that, they’ve got nobody. Their goaltending is suspect.
This year, both are on pace to have less than 80 points. Do you really thing that will be the cutoff for the playoffs?

Not sure who Hempsky is. now look at the rest of the team guest. The leafs hgave more depth, just they aren't playing well as a group.
Oh and I'm sorry, the 2 best teams in the NHL.
Atlanta is sitting 13th in the East, Behind the Leafs! Edmonton is 12th in the West witha win% below 50%

Hkalirah, Pisani is a great player. He might not come up on the scoreboard much, but he is a leader and comes through when the Oilers need him. Also, he was injured to start the season.

This guy’s never finished with more than 37 points. Maybe your point about leadership is valid, and that should be taken into account, but I’d rather have a leader who can put the puck in the net and help my team win some games.
I wouldn’t put him in the ranks of a “great player”. Ovechkin, Heatley, Crosby, etc. are great players. Pisani would be a 3rd or 4th line player on a contending team.

Nashville predators, are you seriously defending the leafs, so there a .500 team now, but when the season starts to mature and the teams find their stride, the leafs will remain inconsistent and frankly, bad. As well as your Nashville Predators are going to suffer the same defeat in the first round as usual and will go no where with signing their young superstar shea Weber, because their management can barely keep the team in Nashville, by the way Ellis and Mason SUCK |

Wow, I'm defending the leafs. But I'm doing it for a reason. All you care about is the oilers, nothing else.
Too bad they have Weber and Zidlicky and Hamhuis and Suter. I know Ellis and Mason both suck and I know that The leafs are inconsistent. but get real, the Oilers winning the cup? They aren't even in a playoff spot right now, but the leafs are.

Hey boys, Peggy Lee said it best, "Whatever Wil Be, Will Be". Absolutely nobody knows who is going to win the cup? I would say though, the smart money is on the Leafs. LOL. There does seem to be great parity in the league this year and I'm looking forward to the ride. Detroit and Ottawa seem to have the early edge but at least in the East the pack is catching up. Anaheim has just got Scott Niedermeyer back and that is going to help them so it is going to get incredibly interesting after Xmas. |
