Poll Question:
Rory Fitzpatrick is now the 5th highest vote-getter among Western conference defensemen. This is thanks in part to the NHL's system for allowing fans to vote online with no limitations. Would you vote for Rory?

The All Star Game isn't about being nice!!! It's about rewarding players who are having a great season. That's why it's call an All STAR Game. The All Nice Game is played by a bunch of Pee Wee players in a dimly lit arena in front of about 9 parents.

I don't know what you guys are talking about. The only thing that seems odd to me about this is that he's only number 5 right now and not number 1. We are talking about the Rory Fitzpatrick, right? Here's a guy who's up there with the defensive greats like Orr, Coffey and Lidstrom. What's the problem here?!!

I think the point is that people are taking the fact that the nhl has allowed you to vote an unlimited amount of times, and using it to make the league look stupid. Trust me, Rory stinks worse than my nuts do - and he is no allstar.
I thought that fans only voted in the starting lineup and then after that the league decided. So he has a long way to go to catch Niedermayer. |

fitzpatrick should by no means be in the allstar game.
but its all just for fun and if he gets enough votes and makes it then good for him

What is with you guys saying Rory is good? He is not a good defenseman at all. The whole thing is kind of humorous and I think it would be great if he actually got voted in. Even if It makes the NHL look really bad, almost bush league.

Why would he bow out? He got the votes, it's his place in the all-star game. I would really want to go if I was him because then anything I did would be amazing, seen as I wouldn't be expected to accomplish anything. What if he annihilated everyone at the skills competition? It would earn him a spot in the All-Star lineup for years to come.
Notice how 3 of the top 4 vote-getters for forwards in the West are Sharks |

| It's not like he's costing anyobdy a spot, lidstrom will be in the game anyway. The game doesn't mean anything, so why not put in a player who works hard but doesn't get noticed? |

That's BS. The ALL-STAR game voting is all about player popularity.
Sure, usually the popular votes are the stars of the teams as generally
these are the ones that the fan like the best, but that is not always the
case. Time and time again the best players are left out of the ALL-
STAR game because other players more popular (or in a more popular
market with greater voting power) got voted in. Only difference here
is that Rory aint even close to a all-star talent, but the rest is same.
As long as the NHL keeps the current structure, sure i'd vote for Rory.

You guys are missing the point... Rory is a "write in" vote, located below the regular picks. The voting is kind of a joke and this Rory campaign is meant to highlight that somewhat... For instance the Sharks have installed voting booths in their stadium that allows their fans to vote at games. This has resulted in the all-star team being basically all San Jose players.

It's a genius idea to help promote the Sharks players. It's not like they don't deserve to be there anyways, the ones that are leading the votes are rightfully doing so (Thornton, Marleau, Cheechoo, Hannan). If it's working so well for them, why shouldn't other teams do it? |
