OK, first some number crunching...(some of these are easy)
1. Why does Jagr wear #68? 2. Why does Crosby wear #87? 3. Why does Kovalchuk wear #17? 4. Why does Malkin wear #71?
More questions to come later!

The only one I know is Crosby:
It's because he's born August (8th month) 7th = 87 And... he was born in '87 = 87
When you have a coincidence like that, you know what number to wear.
I'm guessing Malkin wanted 71 because 17 was taken, but I don't know why he would want 17. |

Yep, that is correct for Crosby.
Nope, not correct for Malkin. |

Malkin wore 71 because 11 was taken
Another question: Why does Ovechkin Wear Number 8?
68 is jagrs lucky number
Kovalchuk wears 17 to pay homage to Valeri Kharlamov

Jagr: does his 68 have relation with The Prague Spring in 1968 (where soviets' tanks invaded Prague's streets)? |

Yes, he wears it as a memorial to the 1968 Soviet invasion of Czechoslovakia, and to honor his grandfather who died in a prison then. |

Yes, he used to be #11 when he played as a kid, but when he joined Metallurg Magnitogorsk someone already had #11. He wanted a number that was similar to 11, and all you have to do to a 1 is add a line on top and it's a 7, so he went with 71.
quote: Another question: Why does Ovechkin Wear Number 8?
Because he started playing hockey at age 8?
quote: 68 is jagrs lucky number
Nope, see above post
quote: Kovalchuk wears 17 to pay homage to Valeri Kharlamov
Yes, and in the Olympics he switches the digits to 71, because Kharlamov's #17 was retired. |

While I wait for an answer to the Ovechkin question from Guest4943, I'll ask the next question:
Which team did Alex Ovechkin score his first hat trick against? |

The only game I can clearly remember him scoring a hattrick against last year is Anaheim but I think that was later in the season.
If it's not Anaheim, my first instinct would be Atlanta. |

Rocket Richard and I forget the name of it, but the one that they give to the most dedicated player, often the "comeback player of the year". I could find out the name, but that would constitute looking it up :P

OK next questions:
1. In what year did Zdeno Chara first play in the NHL All-Star game? 2. Name the five NHL teams Igor Larionov played for 3. Semen Varlamov (from the World Juniors) is a draft pick of which NHL team? |

2003 is correct for the first one (good job -oil country-), Washington is correct for the third, and Detroit and Vancouver are right for the second--they are two of Larionov's five teams (the Blues wasn't one of them). There are three to go. |

Next question: Gretzky's father was the first of the Gretzky family to be born in Canada. Wayne's grandfather was an immigrant. Where did Gretzky's grandfather originally come from?

Judging by the name Gretzky, I'll take a wild guess and say Ukraine. |

It has to be Eastern European. If it's not Ukraine it has to be Poland. |
