Nope, not Poland.

But you're right--the name Gretzky gives it away that it has to be Slavic.

Really? Maybe I'm wrong then--I thought the answer was Belarus. (Though, technically back then it would've been Russia cuz Belarus wasn't a nation till after the Soviet Union fell)

Oh well...the next question I'll try to make less confusing, lol

OK, I went on Wikipedia and under Walter Gretzky I found this:

The son of ethnic Polish immigrants from Mogilev, Belarus and Pidhaitsy,Ukraine

And under Wayne Gretzky I found this:

Gretzky's grandfather, was an immigrant who came to Canada at the beginning of the 20th century from the town of Mogilev in the Russian Empire (now Belarus)

...I guess his grandparents were ethnic Poles and Ukrainians who immigrated to what is now Belarus and then immigrated to Canada. So technically they're both right--his grandfather lived in Belarus but was ethnically Polish. Wow...next question will definitely be less confusing!

Ovechkin wears #8 because his mother wore that number when she played basketball for Russia.

Does anybody know why Jordin Tootoo(the goon on Nashville) used to wear number 22?

I used to watch this guy when he played for the OCN Blizzard, when they faced the Selkirk Steelers. He is a terrific fighter and is a hardworking guy. If nobody gets it by tomorrow i'll post a hint.
For you guys who don't know who he is here's a video:

He wore 22 to honour his brother, I think he committed suicide.

I liked the fight clips...

Yea thats right, his brother and him played on OCN together and were a great combination. His brother wore number 22 and Terence(Jordin's brother) was even better than Jordin. The last year Terence played was with the Roanoke Express. Terence commited suicide and thats when Jordin started wearing his brothers number in memorial.

Rory Fitzpatrick played 2 games for the Preds in 2000-2001. He played the rest of that year in the IHL/AHL.

Tootoo: does he wear the "22" because when you say "22" number by number, it sounds like his name (i.e. "two-two = Tootoo").

i've found this on the net last year, do not remember where...

So you are telling us that you know how many sticks he used his entire carrer, because that is the question that you are asking...

He played 1487 regular season games minus his last game will be 1486 carrer games, I will say he used 2 sticks per game (average).

The answer is 1486 * 2 = 2972 sticks...

After all tomorrow is another day...

So you are saying in his entire career he used less than 100 sticks...

Did you keep track of every stick he used in every game he ever played ?

Check the wording of the question you asked, are you shure you know how many sticks Gretzky used his entire career ?

So u are saying that in over 1400 games grezkty used under 100 sticks i dont believe that at all. Some players go through 4-5 sticks in a game, One game Ovechkin had 6 sticks and left with one

I would have a hard time believing it was under 100 but remember guys he didn't use composite sticks and his shots weren't as powerful = he mustn't have gone through quite as many stick and certainly not two per game as most do now.

Who would Know the exact number of sticks he used in his career, even Wayne himself would not know, and why would he care...

Even trying to track how many he used in a game, would be hard...

This fella must have handed him each stick and tracked every sick he used...not much of a life...

If this is during the game and not the warm-up, I remember him using a different stick each shift...

I will say 20 for the game...
