Poll Question:
Which Canadian team's 2009 first round pick will turn out to be the best NHL player?

Choices:

Nazem Kadri, Toronto (7th overall)
Jared Cowen, Ottawa (9th overall)
Magnus Paajarvi, Edmonton (10th overall)
Jordan Schroeder, Vancouver (22nd overall)
Tix Erixon, Calgary (23rd overall)

Along with a few others, i picked Paarjarvi. Think this kid is gonna be special. Schroeder is a tough call, needs to put on some muscle!!! I'd have Kadri slotted at #2 at this point, even if he's struggled so far this camp.

LOL, when i read this Pasty, i thought maybe Montreal didn't have a first rounder? Wasn't there a season where they didn't draft till round 2?

Don't know a ton about Leblanc and haven't seen much of him so hard to slot him in.

Just looked it up, it was the year before Leblanc, 2008. Round 2, 56th overall was Danny Kristo?

I too picked Paajarvi, I've been saying all summer that this guy is going to be awesome, he has to be an early fav for the Calder trophy too.

Jared Cowen looks like he might be a strong player in the future as well, although being in the East, I don't hear much about him. Is he going to make this year's roster?

As a Canucks fan, I hope that Shroeder does well, but its gonna be a while. He was just cut from camp and sent to the Moose, and AV was no holds barred in his criticism - sounds like he pretty much needs to improve on everything. I don't see him doing as well as Paajarvi or Cowen.

Jared Cowen will probabley get a nine game tryout with the Sens before they make a decsion. He has been one of the best players at Sens camp. I personnaly hope Cowen and Kadri get sent back to Junior so they can rip it up at the World Juniors.

You miss 100 percent of the shots you don't take Wayne Gretzky

Yeah without them the team could be pretty bleak. There are not a lot of guys that will be returning to the WJC from last year. Hall, Eberle, and Subban, just to list a few that are more than likely going to make it on their big clubs.

After saying that I voted Kadri on this poll a few days ago but I didn't really know why until last night. Now if only Kadri would have played like that through the whole pre-season he might have been the rookie everyone is talking about and could have been a shoe in to make the team. I guess we will know in the next few days if he gets re-assigned to the Marlies as the Leafs are saying they will be dressing what will look to be the actual 2010 - 2011 roster for their last two pre-season games against the Red Wings.

Correction Gusteroni - they will play Kadri against Detroit on Fri, and it's totally up in the air for Sat whether he plays.

Yeah, real hard to tell, and obviously anyone's guess who turns out better.

Cowan has looked very, very good for the Sens (watched one game) and Kadri has looked very ordinary (not quite as bad as described by some, but certainly very ordinary) except for last night. And Pajaarvi has been amazing I guess from all accounts . . .

But we really have to go on a lot more than a few preseason games here.

Which is why I pick Kadri, based on the recent history and his incredible playoff performance last spring.

Haven`t really seen some of these guys play. Paajarvi really impressed me at the world juniors, wish the leafs had him :)) This guy can flat out play. I think Kadri has great vision on the ice and will be a great player too, seems like kadri is the type of player who needs to play with offensive minded line-mates who can get into open ice and read the play well, i think he will excel in this situation. Paajarvi would be a fine line-mate ))

Well Cowen and Kadri will both be on the Junior team now Seguin needs to be cut and it might be a decent team.

Jared Cowen needs another year of non-NHL play. A year in the CHL or AHL (pref. AHL -- if he's of age/eligability), would suite him well.

He needs a little more time to develop his game. He skates very well for a guy of his size. He also has excellent positioning.

But i find he needs to utilize his size a little bit more. He needs to work on being more aggressive and less afraid of just plowing guys over.

His size is his biggest asset. He has skill to work with. But, he needs to learn to utilize his size more.
