           	| After the lockout and a year in Switzerland, Canucks prospect Brandon Reid was called up for the Saturday night game Vs. Atlanta. With just a few strides he seems to be the fastest skater on the ice. I know there is a huge "awesome" competition to determine the fastest skater, but not everyone is involved. So who is fastest skater in the NHL?

                      | I hate Calgary but Matthew Lombardi is by far the fastest skater I have ever seen. Then, Patrick Marleau. |

                      | Afinogenov has to be the fastest. I've seen him run up the rink on the way to the goal and no one can catch him. And he can turn around on a dime.
Lombardi's definitely up there too, so is McDonald (after the All-Star game...)

                      | My choices would be: McDonald, St. Louis, and Reid (My favourite Moose and Canuck)

                      | I would also say Lombardi is the fastest today.
However, if anyone here watched Coffey play, he was easily the fastest in ever.

At his retirement ceremony in Edmonton, it still looked like he could keep up with the players today.

                      | Ya Kariya is a fast skater, but he's one of the best in the NHL controlling the puck while skating.

                      | If we're talking flat out speed Lombardi hands down. That guy is sick fast. But he didn't win the fastest skater comp in calgary's skills I think because once you throw in the corners it is a different skill. but he'll burn anyone in a sprint. |

                      | Lombardi? He's up there, but I wouldnt put him with the elite. Afinogenov or Gaborik would be my best bets..

                      | Lombardi is definitely with the elite. I hate the Flames with every single cell in me but he is definitely the fastest skater I have seen in the league.
Add this to the list of reasons why Marleau is underrated. No one has even mentioned his name. It's no fluke that McDonald only beat him by 0.07 seconds in the skills competition. I'm sure Ripley could back me up on this one cause he can watch a lot more Sharks games than us all, but Marleau has to be top 5. He may not seem like it cause he's taller than other speedsters like Kariya, Lombardi, McDonald etc. He's so fast because he has long, extended strides like Scott Niedermayer or Jay Bouwmeester, who won the fastest skater a couple of All-Star competitions ago.

                      | marleau is very fast. he's a very technical skater and extremely smooth so I think his speed is deceptive. I've seen a couple Flames games and lots of highlights and that Lombardi is VERY fast. every highlight I've seen of him is because he's scored a goal by using his speed. gaborik is fast when maneuvering but he's a goofy looking skater. |

                      | Guess I'll put my 2 cents in...
Afingenov, Lombardi and Marleau are all pretty close. I'll give it to Patty M on the tiebreaker because he's a year or two older than Lombo, and Canadian

Just from what I know, and have seen before St.Louis is extremely fast, maybe we'll never know who is the fastest but that's my opinion. If not the fastest, he's among the top 5.

                      | marian gaborik is the fastest no doubt, if anyone watched any wild games this year u saw every time demitra got the puck he would lob it up past the defensemen and have gabby catch it in stride. They were scoring so many goals teams started planning agaist that specific play |

                      | I think my top 3 would be Lombardi, McDonald, Marleau. Afinogenov is quick, but I think he looks a lot quicker than he actually is by virtue of his "crazy legs." I actually think Connolly may be faster in a race. The cool thing about Max is his shiftyness. He moves from side-to-side quicker than virtually anyone on the ice.

                      | Afinogenov or Gaborik are the fastest with the puck, Lombardi I think is the fastest with no puck.
You know Mike Grier is fast too. I saw him in last years playoffs for Buffalo and on the penalty kill he went in to the hash marks trying to get a shorty and then they came back quckly to Buffalos end and all of the sudden Grier is rite there too.

Ya, I'd agree with that. Mikey Grier does have some legs, but on that play he beat a very slow and also tired d-man...I remember the play pretty well.
