there appears to be some digression here, good stuff, so I'll contuinue with that and try to tie it in.
in response to the comments about whether or not Vancouver was a better team than Chicago last year, especially at forward, I respectfully disagree.
Sedins vs Toews and Kane... maybe a wash (Sedins are much better offensively but Toews has a great competitiveness and clutch about him).
Kesler v Sharp. both were very good maybe underrated players, having great years this year. Even if you like Kesler I can apprecaite that.
but after that I feel Chi takes over. Hossa is a star in the league. Bolland is a very good second/third line centre. Does his job really well.
Buff versteeg, ladd madden... et al.... to my mind were a better line up of forwards than Vans.
But more to the point (or at least my point) is that for hockey teams I believe that the whole is greater (or lesser) than the sum of the parts. Call it chemistry if you will, Now beans you might suggest that its coaching, and I would agree at least in part.
But for whatever reason, I am just not sure Van has what it takes to win the finals. Call it San Jose syndrome. I cant remember too many teams knocking on the door year after year that eventually make it (one or two years sure).
Thats my two cents. |

Firstly, the Jack Adams has nothing to do with the playoffs. Secondly, look through this list and tell me how many of these coaches have won the Stanley Cup let alone the Stanley Cup the same season they won the Jack Adams.
Secondly, way to swing the argument. 10 goalies have played in the Stanley Cup finals in the past 5 years. Only Marty Brodeur was an All Star. If you read my post again, you will see that I am not talking about fan voted All Stars, I am talking about actual All Stars. And as much as you want to try to say that Ward is an All Star, he was not when he won the Cup. He was not even the starter for Carolina at the start of those playoffs. Niemi was the starter at the start of the playoffs but was still a rookie. I can't understand how you can use hindsight in the argument.
My point is, take a good team with a good goalie and a great coach and they will win. Take a great team with a great goalie and a below average coach and they will lose. This holds very true in the past 5-10 years. More than 1/2 the time the teams who win and/or make it to the Cup final is not the best team, it the best coached team. |
