top 15 free agents as of july 1/2011 and where they are believed to go. i thought most made perfect sense... the only i might debate is ed jovo going to the avalanche.
other notables are richards to nyr, vokoun to colorado, gagne to LA, and erhoff to detroit |

great link guest .. i wouldn`t be surprised if it s bang on... Giguere to Edmonton is one i hadn`t thought of but it depends on the Bulin wall because Dubnyk is still there no?

TSN reports that Boston is letting Kaberle tast the market, but has not ruled out resigning him. Sounds like Boston offered him something but Kaberle has declined. |

Pitkanen has resigned with CAR, 3yr/13.5M.
Kaberle is an interesting one, it will be interesting to see what offers he gets this offseason. |

Pens offered Jagr a deal, answer expected tomorrow.
If there is a place where Jagr could play and put up excellent numbers, it just might be Pittsburgh. Try out with Crosby . . . and if that doesn't work, play with Malkin. It's win-win!

Chris Drury will be a UFA friday. The Rangers bought out his contract.
Smells like Brad Richards in Manhattan. |

Ooohh . . . normally that wouldn't be such big news, but yeah - with Brad Richards about, it IS news.
Don't know if that says they have a deal in place or not or that they have even talked that much about particulars . . . as even without getting Richards, they might have done that - even for Jagr, or other free agent possibilities.
But yes, it is a move that makes Richards going to the Rangers easier for them to swing.

Hey Slozo, if B. Richards is a Ranger on Friday and with Carter and M. Richards off the table, who do you think the Leafs will target?? Burke stated the other day he will be active on Friday, so who do you think would be likely to be Bud?? |

Your question is directed to Slozo but I will answer with a question.
Is Marc Savard healthy enough to come back to the NHL sometime next season? If so Marc Savard going to Toronto could be a good trade for both teams.
But really with B.Richards out there's not many top line centers available. Not through free agency that's for sure. |

If I was Burke I would avoid doing business with Chiarelli as the last few times have not workrd out well for Burke. |

All thats left via UFA are Drury and Connoly (I don't think BUF is going to resign him). I wonder if Burke would take a flyer on Connolly? When healthy he's a very good centre - problem is staying healthy. He's also American, and Burke likes his Americans.
Via trade/RFA though... Savard is one, although at this point I don't think he's trade-able. I do think that TB is not going to be able to carry both Lecavalier and Stamkos, and one will be available. I think Gomez would be available for the right price. I keep reading rumours about Spezza being available for the right price. |

Feel free to direct this to another thread, but I continue to hear Lecalvier & Richards to the Leafs etc.
What about Nic Backstrom in Wash? He's signed to a long term contract & would give the Leafs a legit number 1. After his playoff performance last yr i'm sure if the right players are offered in a deal that Wash would be willing to contemplate moving him.
Every journey begins with a single step. |

I was just about to ask Pasty what he felt the odds were the Habs would resign James Wisniewski when i noticed his negotiation rights have been traded to CBJ for a 5th or 7th round pick in next years draft (5th if he signs with them, 7th if he ends up signing elsewhere).
His name has come up around here for the Canucks recently but word is, he's had a history of knee problems? He'd be a nice filler for Ehrhoff as he's pretty good on the PP but i'd worry if the Canucks signed him long term (if the knee probs are true). Guess we'll see what he thinks of Columbus Ohio?

Well actually I thought Burke did very well on the Kaberle trade. A first rounder, Colbourne and a second rounder which he used to get Liles. |

It would be a good fit for him in Columbus, they desperatly need a pp specialist on the point. With the acquisition of Carter, Columbus could push for a playoff spot. |

True, but depending where Ehrhoff ends up, Detroit has expressed interest in Wisniewski as well. Ironically, Wis grew up in Michigan cheering for the Wings. Makes you wonder if he'll at least wait and see what they have to offer? |

Rolly just signed for $3M in TB for 1 yr. At 41, that's quite the paycheck. good for him. Not sure he'll reproduce last year's results though. |

that is quite a paycheck, I'm a little surprised by that - both in the amount for Rolly and the fact that they went with Rolly. I figured TB would try to get younger in net.
VAN has resigned Alberts for 2 years, deal size unknown. I'm hoping its 1M or less per year. He was solid last year, him and Rome bring some good size and grit to the 4/5/6/7 spot.
EDIT: 2yr/2.45M. So a little above 1M, I guess I can live with that. Once Salo is signed, the D looks to be set for next year. |

one thing about Wiesnewski was he is a terrific point producer and actuallly on some nights very sound on d, but then every second night and sometimes for 3 to 4 nights in a row he reminds me of M.A Bergeron amaing offensivly but he looks completely lost in his own end, and by lost i mean really lost, that being said in the right role i would have loved to re sign him, but from what i have been hearing he is gonna get 5 million and i wouldn`t hand him that much money, the habs have Markov and Subban who can run a pp and Weaber is a very offensive d man who broke out a bit at the end of last year,
from what i herd is it was either wisnewski or hammirlik and the hammer has expressed a willingness to take a discount to stay in mtl and i think Hammirlik is a better d man all around for the habs,,,, like i said Subban Markov Weaber Hammirlik Georges Yemelin are all viable pp options and are all better d man in their own zone than wiz,
don t get me wrong though Wi was great for the habs last season but with the emergence of Subban the return of Markov and the potential emergence of Weaber their isn`t really a place for him at anything over 4 million a season which he will surly get
so from habs fans best of luck to ya wiz and sign in Columbus because i don`t want to play u very often

The Ehrhoff merry-go-round continues, his rights have been traded to BUF for a 4th rounder. At least NYI got more for him than they gave up I guess...
No surprise he didn't sign in NYI, but I could see him signing in BUF for the right price. McKenzie thinks BUF is going to make a lot of noise come July 1... |

I think it was Willus who called Hamrlik in TO to rekindle the chemistry with Phaneuf. Maybe??
I think this forum as well as many others will be full of posts saying," XXX got how much money for how long???" Things are about to get crazy.
Finally, to the 'Chicago's sloppy seconds," who do you think built the Stanley Cup team?? Dale Tallon, who is now in FLA. He drafted Toes, Kane, Keith, Seabrook, Ladd, Byfuglien, et al.
If he has another 2 years, FLA will be a top contender in the East. |

Speaking of forgetting to qualify apparently the NHLpa feels their was some sort of disgrepancy in the Predators qulifying offers to 7 players, don't get your hopes up Weaber was not one of the 7 players but Sergei Kostitsyn was, we should get a ruling today on what was the error if their was one because at midnight tonight other teams have to be notified if these players are to become UFA's

But Smid resigned in Edmonton for 2 years. That's big news. How can it not be big news?? The guys did have 10 assists and 85 PIMS in 78 games last season. |

Ha ha . . . yeah, I feel the quiet before the Brad Richanrds storm, actually. Tide is going out, gentle breeze, light rain . . . then WHAMO! A hurricane of activity starting Friday.
Not Richards to the Hurricanes, mind you - but certainly a hurricane of ACTIVITY.

According to local sources, Ehrhoff is seeking 6M per season on a long-ish term deal. If true, its easy to see why Gillis gave up, VAN has no room for a 6M dman, nor do I think Ehrhoff is worth 6M a season. |

Just shows how wrong local sources can be
Reports are that Ehrhoff has signed with BUF, 10yr/40M. A 10 year deal for a defenseman, thats a long one - no wonder Gillis couldn't get a deal done.
EDIT - oh wait, other reports have a 5yr/27M deal that is heavily front-loaded.... we'll see.
EDIT AGAIN - nope, 10yr/40M it is. |
