What a disgrace Scott Gomez is. Does he feel not one bit guilty that he is stealing $8million a year from the Motreal Canadiens Organization, or more importantly the loyal Habs fans?
Montreal should terminate his contact ASAP |

I'm a Canucks fan, but this is in no way hating on Montreal. Gomez played for Surrey Eagles, my home town, so I know the type of player he USED to be.
But what a crime! $8million a year! Barely deserves a 1% of that!! |

there's lot of bar in montreal that you get a shot when habs score and a free drink if they win! There's also a place where the player name is on the table and if he scores the table gets a pitcher each! (if the goalie scores it's a 40oz and if it's a shutout a 26oz for the table) it's common in here.
joe is a god, if u dont agree....i dont care |

I guess it's safe to say no one sits at the table where Scott Gomez's name is. This just goes to show that Scott Gomez is a big joke in Montreal. I wonder how long he will last there?

A lot of bars/restaurants here do similar things. They don't actually put names on the table, but they'll hand out pucks with players names on it, if that player scores, the table gets free beers. You certainly don't get to pick your players though!!
Having said that, i've never heard of bars giving away 26ers and 40's!!! |

How awesome it is that people trash this contract so much. I love it. I think Gomez deserves every single penny of that deal.
Why??
Not only was NYR dumb enough to give it to him in the first place, but the Habs traded for him knowing about the deal and his performance!!! If they are dumb enough trade for a guy who is over 30, a career 60pt a season player, and making $8 million a season for another 5 years (at the time of the trade) then I say all the power to him!!!
99.99999999% of the 'normal' people in the world would not shy away from being overpaid and those same people are not asking for a pay decrease if their performance drops. Why should hockey players be any different??
A little more in Gomez's defense, he has only played 16 games this season and his career average is a goal ever 5-6 games. He is only 2-3 goal behind his career pace. That being said, he has a total of 7 goals in his last 96 games. That is grossly off his career pace.
But I'll say it again, Montreal TRADED for this guy. They knew about the deal and the actually gave up players to get him.
Blame Montreal, not Gomez. |

the bar should try to get Gomez to buy a round each time he scores a goal. now that would be an offer! |

Mr. Beans, Scott Gomez doesn't deserve 8 million a season. Sure, the rangers signed him and the habs traded for him. Looking back, it was a huge mistake by both GM's. And I'm pretty sure if Gauthier could free up some cap space and get a decent deal for Gomez, he would. And you can blame the blue shirts or the habs for his ridiculous contract but Scott Gomez doesn't deserve 8 million dollars a season for what he does on the ice. I don't think it's too hard to figure that out. |

I'm pretty sure Beans agrees with you, but what he's trying to say is this: What do you expect Gomez to do??? I don't know what you do for a living, but i'm guessing, no offense, that you don't deserve 8 million per year for whatever it is??? Am i right? Now, am i also right to assume you'd take the 8 mil if it were offered? Now, what if you were getting that, and another company decided they wanted you for that much and aquired your services for the same amount? Sorry, again, no offense, but you're not worth that, but are you gonna give it back???
I have no doubt Scott Gomez is a nice guy and prob volunteers his time and gives money back to charitable organizations. The Montreal Canadiens however, are NOT a charity!!! |

Ok, from your perpective he was able to get the big contract so he gets the big bucks. "more power to him!" Fine. But that doesn't mean he deserves it. Good for Gomez! The point is Scotty is overpaid and his role with the team has diminished esp. with his injury plagued season. The team is in danger of missing the playoffs and Montreal fans are fed up. This promotion from Le Skratch bar in Laval is so insulting to Gomez, he is under constant scrutiny in Montreal because of his lack of production relative to his salary. And I heard the argument that the salary of a player does not equal the quality or production of a player. But you can't help but associate Scott Gomez-8 million-lack of production. That's just his image right now.
Hey Alex, you're right so far the Sedins are tearing it up in the scoring department while Perry and Getzlaf have been nothing more than average.I have both of them in my pool and am very dissappointed.

I'm really confused as to where the Sedin's factor into this??? Regardless, the word "deserves" is very easily debated in this sense. Lemme explain it the best i can, in the simplest format. Let's say Ovechkin gets 50+ goals for 6 straight years, as well as 100+ points. Then, he signs a 1 trillion dollar contract for 5 years (who cares the term at this point?). THEN, he puts up an average of 19 goals and 22 assists for the next 3 years? VERY UNLIKELY, yes, but this sort of thing is possible!
Bottome line is, Drury and Gomez were overvalued/overpaid by the NYR, but credit to them for getting rid of them! |

How can you compare ovechkin and gomez?? ovy is one of the elite players in the nhl, gomez is not! And how does chris drury factor in here?if you think gomez deserves his big contract just because the rangers were crazy enough to give it him, that's fine. You're probably the only one who thinks so. Let me spell it out for you again, Scott Gomez does NOT deserve 8 million a season. |

Very easily. ANY two people (or places, things, etc) can be compared. They may not be equal, but look up the definition of compare and you'll soon learn what a "comparison" is.
quote: Originally posted by Guest9701 And how does chris drury factor in here?
Drury "factors in here" because he is another player who was found to be in a similar situation (*see "comparison") to Gomez, in that he recieved a large contract from the NYR's and didn't fully live up to expectations, AND saw his play decline sooner than most expected. *Did i really need to qualify that?

NO, it's clear to me, that Beans thinks to too! Do i need to quote him for you, or after you've finished learning what a comparison is, maybe you can just scroll up and see where Beans says as much?

All kidding aside Mr Knowitall, i'm not saying that i think Gomez is "worth" 8 mil per, i'm just saying that he must have done something for not only 1 organization to offer him that much, but for another to actually give up assets to aquire him at that rate of pay. THAT, to me, says he's earned the right to make that money! I'll let you figure out what "deserve' means and how to interpret it in this instance..... |

Alex, I have 3 questions for you. 1. Why did you post the link? To praise the 8 million dollar man, Scott Gomez? 2. Do u agree with Beans on everything? Is it some secret obession? Or can you think for yourself? 3. [ moderator edit ] ? Seriously don't waste our time with your pointless posts, please!

1. Because i found it interesting that a bar in Montreal would do such a thing, which more or less pokes fun at one of the Montreal Canadien's players. 2. No, in fact we (Beans and i) have clashed many times on this site. Of course, you already know this as it's not as though this is your first week on this forum, but obviously you choose, unsuccessfully i might add, to try to provoke me into something which i'm not interested in. BTW, yes, i can think for myself. I'll give you an example. I think Alex Burrows is a valuable player to his team and one who anyone would like, if he were on their favorite team. Beans just thinks he's a douchebag. 3. No, i'm not retarded and there's no one forcing you to read my posts so suck it up and deal with it, go elsewhere, or quit crying about it.
I get a real kick out of how some people around here can't stand when someone agrees with Beans. It's the same everytime. If i disagree with him, i'm usually supported in my views by the majority but when i agree with him, suddenly i idolize him and can't think for myself. Some just can't stand when he recieve's support, it's kinda funny.
Unlike you 4280, Beans, myself and a bunch of others, are the one's who come on here and initiate most of the intelligent conversations. Guys like you come on, read a thread, and throw their first comment out on the thread in a way to try to start something (*see above). I don't have time for guys like you. I'd prefer to stick to hockey talk thanks....... |

There is absolutely nothing intelligent about this conversation. The posts regarding the bar were funny and the rest are just dumb. Scott Gomez is not very good and he is way overpaid. There is nothing here to debate. But I just spent ten minutes reading all this crap so maybe I am dumb too. |

Well then, don't be shy and just hang out here. I've posted over 3500 times, surely you can find some other entertaining reading material? Here, i'll make it easier on you, just click on my name!
What you trolls fail to understand, is my opinion on "deserved" vs "worth" or "justifiably earned". Do i think Gomez is currently earning the money he's being paid? No, of course not. Do i think he's worth 8 mil per? No, again. However, when he signed the contract he's currently under, i do feel he deserved it. That comes from what he'd done in the past to earn that money at that time when contracts were going crazy. Sure, i'll even agree that it was prob a little high, but nonetheless, he deserved what he got. It's unfortunate for the Rangers, and moreso for the Habs, that he instantly declined his production and "worth" not long after signing that deal.
Now, i'll run along, leave you guys to call me retarded which is really childish and probably not the smartest choice of words to describe someone on a public forum. But, judging by your few posts, it's obvious you're here to stir the pot so it's kinda expected. |

Folks - namecalling will get your post nuked, keep it clean.
And . . . taking the time to comment on a post you consider unworthy in any way only makes YOU appear to be foolish. If you don't like a topic or post . . . the best thing to do is ignore it and move on!
