Most people will select Kaberle, but if you watch the games he has been one of the worst, if not the worst.
I have never seen him give up the puck, get caught giving up break aways, so many times, this year has been his worst.
Offence alone does not make the D man, playing good in your own end, hitting, defensive zone position, etc. also make a good D man.
I would have to say Hal Gill, most people think he is slow, and does not have offensive skills, but he is not all that bad offensively, but he shines in his own end, and especially on the short handed situations...
I don't necessarily agree with everything I say.

they are the only guys who have played every game and dont make a lot of mistakes in their own end

I question the reason why belak is left off this list...
he continues to impress whenever he plays and yet they send him down to the minors. Its true that he mey not have as much skill as kaberle or mcabe but when it comes to heart and aggression he wins. Thats basically all the leafs have this year as well |

I think my mom plays the point on the powerplay for the Marlies. And she thinks Paul Maurice is really cute, so watch out, Kabs and Kubes and Cabes and........ whatever.........

| All Defenseman make mistakes, granted some make more than others. I think if you like a guy then I think you see him less objectively. Good goaltenders tend to make us forget the average defenceman's miscues. The Leafs do not a have a goalie period and thusly it is hard to say at times which of those guys is the best. It seems that Brian McCabe is the whipping boy for disgruntled Leaf fans and for Leaf bashers who simply hate him. I am not a fan of McCabe anymore than I am a fan of any of the others but he is their best defenseman. This guy logs up to thirty minutes a game some nights and nobody seems to give him credit for all the quality time he puts in. He sees to be ridiculed because he makes the big bucks which to me is totally erellavent. Yes, by assuming the leadership roll on this team he is expected to lead by example and although being snake bit on a couple of gaffs this early season he has been exemplary to say the least. I believe that no one knows who is doing the job better than the players themselves and after the big own net goal everyone on the team was totally supportive in rallying behind him. Enough said on that, now please get us a goalie!!!! P.S. I know my spelling isn't up to par on the odd word in some of my posts? It is the direct result of this sight not having Spell Check. LOL....... |

| I've watched basically every leafs game so far, and in my mind the best d-man has been Kubina, hands down. Kaberle is obviously the better d-man overall, but Kubina has been better so far this season. I'd put Kaberle 2nd, and I'd put White 3rd - he's been surprisingly good. |
