How can XXXXX, someone who joined a short time ago, have over 1000 posts, verging on hitting 1200. they post many one liners and write comments on every, and I mean EVERY, single topic. As a guest that reads these forums regularly, seing their name and some one line comment every three or four posts sickens me.
I have followed these forums, although have not joined because I want to make worthwhile contributions when I do post, and posting as a guest does the trick for me.
I have seen some fantastic people post on these forums and hit the 1000 mark with hard work and hockey talk. People such as Bablaboushka, Semin-Rules, Willus3, Beans15, Mikhailova, Pucknuts, Paintrain, Leafsfan _101, 1 Crosby Fan and Saku Steen kept stayed at these boards long enough to gain a reputation to deserve 1000 posts. Although some of them are no longer frequent posters they still have, and deserve, the honor of having 1000 posts.
These members did not have a crazy post count per day or post in every topic. They made their voice heard in things that they could speak well about, or give their opinions. Now, with XXXXXX it seams, that the posting debacle from last year is returning again.
With this in regard I am asking moderators to try and stop this from happening. It sickens me to see XXXXXX have 1000 posts when they do not belong with those who have 1000 posts to their credit. Please, with all due respect, clean this up.

Since when did having 1000 points become such a prestigious honour?
Big deal, the guy has just as many good posts as he does "one liners".
Forums encourage people to give their opinion on topics, whether they be an essay, a paragraph, or a sentence.
To me it doesn't matter if you have one post, a thousand posts, or a million posts. Its what you say in those posts that counts.

I'm not saying that it matters how many posts you have, but you shouldn't be at 1000 posts in two or so months. The others at 1000 took long to reach that plateau, they didn't do it in two months.
Pickuphockey had this problem 6 months ago. It would be a shame to see it happen again. |

As a relatively new poster here myself, I have to also say "meh" to your comment.
For starters, you do seem to be putting a lot of weight and honour into this 1000 posts thing; and really, it is just a number for others to see if someone has been around for a long time, or if they comment a lot. That's it. It's no big deal, dude . . . at least, not for any of the people who you claim are the only ones who should have the right to 1000 (educated guess ).
From my short time here so far, I have actually found the moderators do a pretty good job, and would like to add some positive feedback to counteract this nonsense. Keep up the good work, fellas!

Thanks for posting your concern guest 6833. For the record we have made several attempts lately to encourage certain visitors and members to put a little more thought and "meat" into their posts as well as remind them of guidelines and posting etiquette. And to be clear, openly flaming people is not encouraged either.
But I understand the true intention of your post, and I think it is that people need to put quality ahead of quantity and I agree! One-liner posts are just fine but they have to be meaningful. One-liners that do not bring value to the discussion are really not necessary nor are they encouraged. However what is encouraged is participation. So it is simple really, let's do a combination of the two. PARTICIPATION + VALUE = GREAT FORUM! This applies to everyone!
AGAIN here are some of the guidelines for this forum. Even if you think you know these, read them again and try to absorb them:
- Moderators are contributors too, you'll know if they are moderating! (When their moderator hats are on please follow their lead) - Respect members and visitors (it's ok to disagree but don't make it personal) - Make sure your posts add value (that means "think") - Don't double post! Simply edit your previous response - Stay on topic! - Create subjects in the correct forums - No profanity - Please spell check (no IM short forms) - Don't post to boost your rank - No porn, advertisements or spam - Add a link to your sources where possible - Keep your profile taglines and images small - Use common sense
Read the rules and guidelines here: http://www.pickuphockey.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=608 http://www.pickuphockey.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=609
Also here is an interesting discussion from last season on forum rankings and worthless posting (see pages 2 (starts with Ripley) and 3) http://www.pickuphockey.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=1120&whichpage=2

the only thing worthwhile in this forum is, that nobody has mentioned anything about the Maple Laffs and that must almost be a record of sorts.......although I do hear whining don't waste it on the small stuff let it out on the NHL Refs.....................a post is a post is a post that means the forums are active and that is a good thing.. |

I'm puzzled by the author's comment that posting as a guest allows you to make more worthwhile contributions as opposed to joining (by username) and becoming a part of community. The way I see it, posting as a guest offers less credibility to a poster. This is not to say guests don't make positive contributions - they certainly do - but being a guest also serves to detract from a user's credibility when they post anonymously, because as a guest (by nature of that title) it denotes the user doesn't want to be a part of the community for the long haul, which lessens the impact of their opinion in the eyes of members who can be held accountable.
As an Admin on another forum myself, I understand and appreciate your concern. And if the 'guest feature' was being used for malicious intent, or for the sole purpose of boosting one's thread count it would need to be addressed on a case by case basis. Some people however, are both a balance of part-time contributor and part-time post whore. They may be a menace at times, but they also contribute as well, so it isn't grounds for banning. As long as they 'stay within the lines'. |

Agreed, and I think that by having this discussion we are helpping to solve the problem. But we must understand that resolution will only be temporary. People come and people go and I have no doubt that we will raise this topic again in 12 months or so. It is the very nature of a public forum. All we can do is make sure that we take some pride in our posts and ensure that we make them reasonably meaningful and that we follow the guidelines set forth by the site. |

Guys I stayed out of this for a while but I would just like to bring it to your attention that any one who posts on this forum is upping their posts rank through un-hockey related forums and basically reiterating whatever someone else said.
Let the moderators and admin post, read it, live by it, and that is the end. We don't need everyone on the site saying ''oh too many posts''
The issue is known, we would do ourselves a favour by moving on and letting those who are left in charge to do exactly that -- be in charge!
That is all.

There is no thread on these forums that is un-hockey related so that is false information that you are providing. |

How about when someone tried to start the 'other sports' forum?
http://www.pickuphockey.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=3328
You would be surprised if you did a little search how many actual POSTS are not directly related to anything hockey relevant, including what you and I are discussing right now!

This is slightly redundant but I do not back down from a challenge:
First of all, almost all the 'Forum Rules and Announcements'' are not hockey related. I understand the need to set out guidelines and make announcements -- not the need to have 3 pages of people saying what 10 people before them already said.
How aobut an NFL poll, which is brand new as of today and set up by none other than the admin! http://www.pickuphockey.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=3474
And I am being very liberal, if you look at all the forums that are not directly related, and all the posts for that matter, and all the repeated stuff -- whoa! Not to say we all do not do it... Just I find it sort of pointless to be commenting on a forum about over commenting

If you can name 1 member that trys to up their post count by posting on non-hockey related threads then please tell me.
One poll non-hockey related is not the end of the world or in this case this forum. Im sure Admin is just trying to have a little fun and mix it up a little. Nobody in that thread has posted more then once so there goes your theory of trying to up a post count in a non-hockey thread.
I also see that in a topic that YOU just made you have once again posted back to back which is an evident way of getting a post count up. You are really just shooting yourself in the foot here Alex.
If you forgot to include something in your post, then edit it. Its not to hard. |

I never suggested it is the end of the world. In fact, I like the poll idea and I LOVE the Patriots.
However, that does not leave out the fact that many people on this website post redundant posts.
I am included in that. I am just stating what to me is the facts. By letting this go so far, I am repeating what we were told essentially not to do.
I love the forum, I love the site, let it be known.

Don't worry little fellar, some day you'll realize that you can have alot more fun with a girl (or a guy I guess....) then spending 20 ours a day on this forum. We won't have to cypher through all your garbage trying to figure out what exactly your point is and everyone will be better for it. |

I also love this forum and I also think it is a great place to be.
It is just that lately things have been getting a little out of hand in my opinion and apparently guest 6833's too. I am just suggesting that it should be stopped before it carries on for much longer. |

Come on MSC. This is the exact point Admin is trying to get across to everybody. Make your posts worthwhile and dont waste space on the page with a stupid post like this. Alex and I were having a good discussion and you had to come and interupt with a post that has no meaning. |

Man you guys are so uptight. Do you guys talk to your firends liemt his? Just lighten up, Honestly I don't give speeches about hockey to my friends I say "Eh, you catch that Oilers game? Moreau was laying out everyone in sight" Not " Hey guys, I watched the Oilers game yesterday and I think Moreau played a great 2 way game. Despite the Oilers losing 4-1 he played both ends very strong and had (X Amount) of hits and I think was the best Oiler on the ice." and do I care if someone insults me or swears at me? No frankly it's a part of life. So guys loosen up stop worrying about these "forbidden rules that cannot be broken" lets talk some hockey and screw the rest. |
