The NHL has got to make a change to the way it hands out points. Perfect example of why the current situation is not working was last night when the Ducks beat Colorado in OT. Instead of two points being handed out - there were three which hurts teams like Edmonton and Vancouver who are chasing the Avs and Ducks for a final playoff spot.
They need to change it to make every game worth the same amount of points. If every game is worth three points: 3 for a regulation win, then 2 for an OT win, and 1 for an OT loss, we would see more action in the final 10 minutes of the game with teams pushing for the three points.
Or teams trapping in the last 10 minutes to save the 3 points, or 1 point. I see how it works in football (soccer), but that style is just not what the NHL wants right now. It allows for more defensive posturing, which in turn will be less goals-per-game, which in TURN will be exactly what the NHL didn't want.
