Does it bother anyone else the 'pet' names hockey players have for each other? Common! you're supposed to be hard core tough guys! Nazy, Kess Kess, Mo Mo and worst of all Cookie? Are you even kidding me?

How is that supposed to intimidate the opposition? Let me guess how it goes.,

"Watch out here comes Cookie and he's going to crush you" WOO WOO go Cookie Go! :)

I think some of them are funny. Like on the Sharks, they call Marc-Edouard Vlasic (from the QMJHL) "Pickle" because of course of the popular brand of pickles down in the US. That's a pet name put to good use. I call a kid on my team "Shell" because during tryouts he wore these bright red and yellow socks.

Players just add a 'y' or an 'er' to anything and there's their pet name. Those are annoying to hear about unless they have a nice ring to them. "Cookie", presumably Matt Cooke's pet name, sounds a little wussy. "Kess kess" is a little weak too.

Sometimes it works though, like Heatley being called "Heater" or Kiprusoff "Kipper" or "Iggy" for Iginla. Others just don't flow so well.

I have heard Morrison called Mo, never Mo Mo. I agree Kess Kess is pretty weak. Cookie doesn't bother me although I agree not intimidating. What about Pies for Fernando Pisani? The Dominator is probably the best I have heard.

Is it me or are we getting less creative? Too much of a nintendo generation maybe but what about some of these:

Maurice 'Rocket' Richard
'Terrible' Ted Lindsay
Mr Hockey
The Great One
The Golden Jet

Could you imagine 'Gord Gord' or Hully?

If they're disguting names, yes. "Cookie"??

But some players have more intimidating names, like The Wreckin' Ball (Recchi), The Dominator (Hašek), Sarge (Sergei Gonchar), and T-Bone (Thibault). And I like "Alexander the Great" for Ovechkin.

Kovy (Kovalchuk)
Ovie (Ovechkin)
Kozzie (S. Kozlov)

Is this a Russian thing? LOL

(Sometimes I call Afinogenov "Affy" cuz his last name is so long)

Yeah, that's a good nickname. I think "The Dominator" is the best.

I've always like Cujo for Curtis Joseph. It's awesome! for you younger fans who may not know the reference, Cujo was the name of a rabid killer St. Bernard dog in a Stephen King horror novel in the 80's. He has it painted on his mask.

Usually in interviews the canucks players refer to cooke as Matt ppl used to call him cookie(media/annoucers) but not really any more, and they call Kesler "Bull", a nickname todd bertuzzi came up with, they also call Josh Green "anchorman" cuz apparently he looks like will farrell in that movie

CANUCKS RULE!!

Some players' nicknames are based off their real names. Like Miroslav Šatan--he goes by "Miro". And Hašek goes by "Dom" for short some of the time. And of course Crosby goes by "Sid". There are probably more but I can't think of any at the moment...it's nearly midnight and I'm tired. I'll add 'em later.
