If he hadn't played those 3 seasons in Russia, I don't think it would be a stretch to say he might of had a chance to catch Gretzky at 894. He's on pace to finish with 750 after this season, iand if he could of averaged 30 goals a season those 3 years he spent in Russia, he would be at 840. He would of also surpassed the 2000 point mark by now as well.
If he does play til he's 50 like some think he plans to, then he will no doubt still catch Howe for 2nd in goals. And he should pass Messier next season for 2nd alltime in points.
Wish there was a like button for every accomplishment this guy has done in the last 4 years on his run to become the #2 all time. He is the only player who I truly believe has a shot of playing as much or more than Howe and being more effective at his age while doing so. That is an almost as incredible feat as some of the records he is chasing.
